Just got around to reading that thread......

Looks like the issue has been identified but what will be the fix for it? A software update or something at "their" end? More importantly, when will it be resolved?
Please escuse my ignorance if this cann't be resolved in software......

Far from it - plenty of theories there, but nothing concrete. The fact that the problem does not show up on a 5 year old Vestel T8300 STB possibly blows the theory from the Digital Stream engineer, at least in part - I hope my post about that didn't kill the thread!

Vestel are still investigating although I really would have expected Cabot to have found something out by now (although, I wouldn't necessarily be told anyway). They should be able to easily reproduce it from my test files and via the Mendip transmitter. I hope the fact that it doesn't happen on the T8300, but does on all the PVR models helps them narrow the issue down. Clearly the encoders at the transmission stage were changed, which the decoders in the Vestel boxes do not handle, but it is still not clear whether those changes are in spec or not. No progress yet that I'm aware of.

Ok, cheers.

I hope they can sort things out though. As you may recall, I've had this issue since I first rutuned the box to get the 1st BBC hd channels back in Jan

Don't worry - I haven't forgotten that . I have a feeling that ultimately, this may also be what was only affecting some 5.1 broadcasts for me since DSO. My hunch is that it is a bug in the Broadcom supplied code, which can be a software fix if the Humax is anything to go by. That's not to say that ultimately it could still be a broadcast error too.

Do you think Vestel will bother with an update for the 7650? It is a few years old now, still working fine and dandy though

It's not out of the question - I think Currys still sell the Logik branded T7650 after all.

I'll keep my fingers crossed then. The clicks and pops really are annoying, can't really afford to buy a newer machine yet. Even then, is there any guarantee that the new one won't be the same?

No guarantee - I know at least one of the Humax models is apparently not affected. Now the issue is more widespread, it is the kind of issue that makes the Vestel boxes not fit for purpose, so really it is something that simply has to be fixed in one way or another. As annoying as it is, I would recommend everyone to hold on for now, at least until some real official information is available on the matter.

Regular readers will be aware that I have been critical of the Vestel T7655 boxes, recommending the older T7650 as the best of the bunch. This opinion is set to change though, as work on the T7655 Emerald software has been continuing behind the scenes... As of Christmas Eve the video processing / deinterlacing issue, which I was highly critical of, has been fixed, as has been the ignoring of the accurate recording start signal - both of these issues were unique to the Emerald software, and were not present on the older Amber software.

As a result of these and other fixes, a T7655 equipped with Emerald v1.29 or newer is now better than the T7650 in my experience - video quality is just as good, and doesn't suffer from the skipping/jumping that the T7655 Amber has. It also doesn't appear to suffer from the "an error occurred with this recording" problem which the T7650 and T7655 Amber do. So, those worrying about replacing their T7650 at some point needn't worry anymore . That said, the new software is not publicly available yet, but I would hope there will be an update soon and that newly manufactured units get the newer software.

On a separate note, Vestel are still investigating the sound glitch problem affecting channels on the two DVB-T2 muxes. Hopefully, there will be some news on this soon and a positive resolution, either via a software update or changes in the transmission, depending on the exact source of the problem which nobody appears to know right now.

Coincidentally and somewhat bizarrely, just a few minutes after my previous message, I received another software update which does fix the audio glitch issue (previously recorded programmes now play fine too). No news yet on an update for the T7650, but I'll let you know once I have more news.

Is it likely that there may be additional fixes included in any update for the 7650? Or would it be more likely to be just for the audio?

I would hope it would include all the fixes previously mentioned and others since then that I have tested. The new version that I have been testing for a while is in no way unstable and only an improvement on v1.49, so there is no good reason not to release a full update as far as I'm concerned.

Re 7650 - Today I noticed that a recording in progress on the 28th was still recording but stuck at 2144hr and I couldn't do a thing with it. In the end I managed to exit out and then did a "stop and delete", which took a-g-e-s and gave me back about 10GB of hard drive space

No recordings I'd scheduled after that time had recorded, I wonder if they were all wrapped up in that stuck recording

Never mind, it all came out in the wash - just hope I haven't missed anything crucial.

Does anyone know if there has been any movement on the audio glitch issue on the 7650 box?

Not yet. A public fix hasn't come yet even for the current gen Emerald boxes (although this should be coming very soon). The Emerald T7655 boxes are in more urgent need of an update as Argos are still selling boxes with broken software (timers disappear after a couple if days, so recording doesn't work!).

Given that Currys are still stocking the T7650, that hopefully means there is more of a chance that an update will come. There have been some other recent developments with the T7650 software, so it is not as if it has been forgotten about, but I've yet to see/test Broadcom's audio fix.

They don't rush these things do they? Having said that, it's better to get it right than release a flawed update.
Thanks for the update......

Cannot receive COM7 channels on T7650 but can on my Samsung TV's built in Freeview. Stated elsewhere that "There are some (Vestels) that bizarrely can only store one DVB-T2 mux ! ?."

Could this be relevant to my issue with the T7650?

No. It was the T8300 STBs that had that issue, before a software update to fix it was issued. The PVRs have always been OK in this respect. So, could be a signal strength issue. Does anything show up in the manual channel scan screen if you put the correct UHF number and n for COM7?

No, manual scan for that number at winter Hill (31) shows nothing at all. Do you think it is signal strength. Have also been advised that COM7 at Winter Hill may require a wide band aerial and not a Group C/D one which works fine for everything else from there and for COM7 on my TV.

So, today was the day that T7655 Emerald boxes had their first ever software update, and it could be argued the first time the boxes have ever worked as intended (recording functionality has been broken since the boxes first went on sale around June 2014). I think it is also the first automatic update to be transmitted over the internet rather than an OAD.

There are numerous fixes including those listed at www.vestelpvr.futaura.co.uk/T7655.php. Yes, the AAC sound glitch bug is part of the update. Now the update has been released I can resume pushing for T7650 public update - I have not seen a fix for the audio issue yet.

I'd like to hear from anyone who has a Bush T7655 Emerald box and whether it has updated to v1.20.2 or not. I know the Hitachi boxes updated, but am unsure if the Bush boxes share the same software build.
