Regular readers will be aware that I have been critical of the Vestel T7655 boxes, recommending the older T7650 as the best of the bunch. This opinion is set to change though, as work on the T7655 Emerald software has been continuing behind the scenes... As of Christmas Eve the video processing / deinterlacing issue, which I was highly critical of, has been fixed, as has been the ignoring of the accurate recording start signal - both of these issues were unique to the Emerald software, and were not present on the older Amber software.
As a result of these and other fixes, a T7655 equipped with Emerald v1.29 or newer is now better than the T7650 in my experience - video quality is just as good, and doesn't suffer from the skipping/jumping that the T7655 Amber has. It also doesn't appear to suffer from the "an error occurred with this recording" problem which the T7650 and T7655 Amber do. So, those worrying about replacing their T7650 at some point needn't worry anymore

. That said, the new software is not publicly available yet, but I would hope there will be an update soon and that newly manufactured units get the newer software.
On a separate note, Vestel are still investigating the sound glitch problem affecting channels on the two DVB-T2 muxes. Hopefully, there will be some news on this soon and a positive resolution, either via a software update or changes in the transmission, depending on the exact source of the problem which nobody appears to know right now.
