Maybe, but it is a new PVR at Argos and a Vestel box - I doubt there will be any new SD models, so the T7300 is the future. Besides, it seems only farpoint and I own one .

Yes the TV does switch to the correct HDMI port when the box turns on, it also correctly goes to the other HDMI port (which is an always on PC connection) when the box is off. My issue is that when I am not using the T7300 is will come out of standby all on its own (to check timers etc) and will switch over the TV's HDMI input. I think the software just needs to be changed to not turn on video outputs when in this state. I have reported the issue, so hopefully it will get looked at soon.

Ok, so nobody has bought one yet . May I ask who you're testing it for? Sony TVs never autoswitch to HDMI, unless the external device has CEC support - probably the same is true for other makes that have CEC support too. It's a shame the HDMI issue that you mention wasn't picked up when the similar issue with SCART pin 8 was fixed earlier on in development.

I think my Finlux TV just selects an HDMI port that has active video on it. Probably not a bad idea if there's no CEC, but the DVR shouldn't be outputting video unless it was explicitly woken up by the user.

Agreed. It took a while to get this point across with SCART, so hopefully it won't take so long for HDMI .

My aging mother in law needed a new Digital TV Recorder as her old one broke after many years of good service.
I have a Vestel T835 and wanted her to have the same so that I could give telephone help.


On my advice she bought a Bush Freeview+ Digital TV Recorder-500GB from Argos.
The picture on the Argos web page and dimensions clearly show a Vestel T835 box.

I understand the new T7300 uses a Broadcom chipset. Any ideas of this is the same chipset used in the Digitalstream and Humax Freeview HD recorders?.

Similar if not the same as the DS, Humax and Sony boxes, yes. Certainly from the same family. I can't check on the exact part number because the top of the chip is covered.

Just noticed Argos have it at £170 now (£40 off). Still relatively expensive, and the fact that the software is in need of some improvement needs to be factored in. In my experience, if you set up a lot of recordings, particularly when both tuners are to be used at the same time, it is not safe to actually use the PVR whilst the recordings are in progress . The reason being that recordings may fail to start if you are watching live TV and in progress recordings may get aborted and deleted if you are playing back from the library (including chase play). Apart from those 2 issues, the T7300 is ultra-reliable and I'm very happy with it.

If anyone can expand it has an STM Elecronics STI5162GBB main chip. (ST Omega)

The remote pictured is what I have for testing the T7300 - not sure if it is the same as the retail version, because the T7300 does not have PIP. No doubt this is the unit farpoint referred to a few posts back.

All my Vestels have been thrown out except one that I'm (eventually) sending to a forumite for him to tinker with on his own behalf, him never having had a Vestel. I see Argos have reduced the one in their catalogue, as you thought they would, Futaura, but I bought a Humax which came with the annoying "culture gap" that the 9200 had.

This new one looks good, presumably Argos will stock it. I take "being able to zip through the simple iPlayer menu" with a pinch of salt though

Why is this?

This is normal. The PVR records the first instance of the programme. Hollyoaks is first broadcast on E4 and is then repeated on the following weekday.

So, I noticed today that the Bush T7300 has taken a further price cut down to £129.99 and a new Bush T7650 1Tb model has appeared on the website for a whopping £249.99. That said, it doesn't appear that Argos have any stock of the T7650 model currently - I hope the software gets fixed before it goes on sale! The T7650 is in general a good evolution over the T7300, but there are some relatively major bugs that do still need fixing and some fine tuning is still necessary as always. The T7650 will feature the MHEG red button based BBC iPlayer, which is good in some ways, but this is SD only of course, unlike the HTML based version that the T7300 has which can play HD content too.

My Technika Smartbox is crippled since Fetch went bust, no program info and the wifi isn't working properly (though I have to investigate further) I have the Humax HDR-Fox T2 but hate it, it's clunky to navigate and the remote is nearly as bad as the SD recorder's. Accurate recording is good though.

That burble is leading me to say that I would be interested in the new Vestel if the software gets sorted.

It is definitely clunky. To me it looks as though someone realised it was clunky and then tried to tweak it instead of a redesign.

What sort of thing is wrong with the remote? It is OK for me.

those problems could al be caused by having two lots of the same channel.

Are you sure they have no sound? What I mean is, have you tried rebooting the box by making go into low power standby and on again, and then retrying playing the recording? I have had this problem, but only on the HD channels and always the recording did really have sound, but didn't play on first try. Usually a mixed of changing channels between SD and HD channels a few times will fix, other times rebooting will resolve.

When it records two versions of the same programme, is this both from the SD and equivalent HD channel by any chance? I have had that happen occasionally. However, if you are getting two copies on essentially the same channel, it could indeed be because the box has multiple copies of the channels scanned in - do any show up in the 800 range?

Regarding the red indicator on the library, I reported that to Vestel long ago, but it has yet to be fixed. However, for me it is not so much as one third - probably closer to one tenth. I would guess that it is maybe including the disk space used on the second partition (used for timers, and other data other than recordings) so is showing the HDD space used across the whole disk, and not just that available to the library.

I do have some 800 channels so I will delete them and see if that stops the problem recurring.

The red bar on the timer started at about 10% as you suggest but then grew to about a third (even with only a single short recording and nothing else on the HDD). Reformatting the disk reduced it back to 10% ish again.

And the problem reoccurs immediately after making a short recording after formatting?
