nokia rep came into my shop friday and said they have no plans to make an android phone.
That may change though as more and more manufacturers release them. |

Nokia will already be experimenting with Android in their R&D labs, one can be sure of that. However that I dare say will be merely for comparative analysis as opposed to a view to mass launching.
Given it's open source most major manufacturers bar Apple will have played with the software on their phones, it makes sense to have a feel for it and what it offers. Don't get me wrong mind I have no source or confirmation of said guess, the nature of the buiness would lead me to believe this however. Most companies check out the competition even on their own hardware, so its not surprising Android is able to run on the N900. Though I do long for the day when they manage to run it on the iPhone oh how much fun that would be for the Apple Community! |

Nokia won't use Android. They'll only be using Symbian or Maemo now due to contractual issues.

![]() Its ridiculous how SE, Moto and Samsung are trying to cover everything by offering Android, Symbian and WM devices. |

I don't think they need Android. What matters is the Android apps. As I understand it, those are supported by a modified Java virtual machine. That VM could be ported to Meamo, without porting the rest of Android. And further, both Meamo and Android's VM are sufficiently open source that any competent developer could do it. It doesn't have to be Nokia, and they might not be able to prevent it.
So I wouldn't be surprised to see Android Java-ish apps running on an N900 before the end of the year. And I suspect that would be a good thing for all concerned. It'd help Nokia sell the devices, it'd give users access to more phone apps, it'd give Android developers access to Nokia's phones, and it wouldn't compromise Nokia's vision or Google's. |
