I really hope you fish is ok but this stuff should be well out of the reach of children for their own safety.

There aren't any children in the house so it doesn't usually matter, and we normally move dangerous stuff to a higher cupboard if the family come over, but this wasn't a planned visit so we didn't move anything, never crossed our minds. She's normally well behaved but she's curious as anything and climbs about all over the place, hence how she managed to get the disinfectant off the windowsill.

is there still a chance? Sorry for the wee rant about your niece. My bad. I.ve been so upset by a post on GD and not feeling much humanity. I much prefer animals (furry, scaly, feathery) to humans.

I just checked on her and she's perked up a wee bit, less drifty and darts about every so often. Still touch and go though.

right some hard work then. Totally gut the tank. Boil any tank ornaments you can with some cooking salt or even better some aquatic salt. It'll help sterilise the stuff. Also wash and scrub the tank with warm water and rinse a few times. Once you've finished doing that fill the tank to 40 - 50%. That amount of water will do her for a day or two until you can add more treated water if you still want to use tank treatments. Leave the princess where she is for tonight. I'm presuming the basin is fairly full? Keep her quiet add hopefully she can go back into her clean home tomorrow. You should be able to get the tank up to 100 per cent before the end of the week. Maybe someone else will come along with better advise. We're all just trying to help wee princess. glad she.s a wee bit perkier. X

you can call me ann. . I hope she makes it too. Have you tried asking on freecycle if you have in it your area for a fish tank? Just a thought. I got my hospital tank through it. Its only 30 litres but its so handy. Came with all the equipment too.

I have rock salt, is that okay? Or is it the same thing? I'm not a salt expert, sadly!

another wee tip. Cover the basin with a washing basket and weigh it down with the latest argos book. Cats are notorious for catching fish . Any book will do really lol.

Will do.

Just had another peek, she's the same as she was before. She was totally still when I looked first, my heart dropped, but then she twitched. Just hope she hangs on.

well you know you.re doing you.re very best for her. A lot wouldn't even care if she was theirs. I take my virtual hat off to you. A woman (you are aren't you) after my own heart. I had to have my fish euthanised last week and i cried buckets. I'm such a sap.

Yeah I be lady I've just really enjoyed looking after the fish since I realised that they're more complicated than you first think, they all somehow became more meaningful. Not that they weren't before, I'm not explaining well, but I hope you understand what I mean.

What happened to your fish?

OK .

Hi .

Not much you can do in this case except what you have done with changing the water.

All I can advise is to just keep an eye on her at the minute.

If you think she is struggling and you would like to put her out of her misery then take her head off with a knife. If you have any clove oil then use that to sedate the fish first.

I am not advising you do that, but least you know in-case.

I hope she/he get's very better soon.

i hope princess is ok this morning. have my fingers crossed for you. definately wash, re-wash, rinse tons, maybe fill the tank, add extra dechlorinator and run the filters for a couple of hours, then break down and wash again. itl be worth it. obviously your cycle will be gone but it has to be done.

if you do feel the need to euthanise, decapitation isnt really needed, you can anaesthatise using clove oil shaken up in some water, then overdose with a stonger water/clove oil solution which will kill her (without the gruesome part-i could never do it myself) and i also freeze solid after i clove any of mine just to make certain sure (yes i worry too much)

i would be changing the water in the bowl once a day at least, it needs to be kept as fresh as possible, and its only a small volume of water so the ammonia will build quickly. make sure to keep using dechlorinator, and add an airstone if possible too.

im so pleased i have my tanks up out of the way, or have heavy lids, all stuff like cleaning stuff etc is kept in the cupboard under the sink in my kitchen, even if kids arent around. i did once kill off my entire population of stick insects when i didnt think and polished their tank since then ive been even more careful

good luck, i hope she makes it

oh there's no need to take their head off mate! Just a wee drop of clove oil to make the fish sedated them simply over dose the fish with more clove oil. To be extra sure you can put it in the freezer but i.ve not done that. I.ve overdosed the fish and left for am hour in a dark quiet place. They go very peacefully. No need for decapitation.

Hi everyone, I woke up to find that Princess had sadly passed away I'm not surprised judging from the way she was acting last night, but still... a part of me really did think she'd pull through once she was in the clean water. Can't believe it, really.

ah well. You tried. Sounds harsh but have you disposed of the body? If you can wrap her in newspaper and just put her in your bin. Down the loo is frowned upon now. Even i have to remind myself. Plus a few of mine would have blocked the system! You gonna get a bigger tank still?
