To be honest, I'd be just as interested to know whether any of the female pros are gay, and as a straight lady I doubt very much I'd want to 'end up' with any of them.

I don't think any of the speculation on here has been negative, in a 'oh they're gay so that makes them good/bad' way. It's more 'oh, that's another dimension to these people I like on screen, and whose talent I admire.'

And before the 'it doesn't matter' brigade start again, when I say 'another dimension', I mean that it is simply another insight into their personal lives, rather than any sort of indication of what their personality is like. Speculation is higher on this forum partly because of the crap job ITV do of giving the pros any sort of time in the spotlight.

So when you see a thread marked 'Who's gay?', if you are part of the 'why do you care?' brigade, then DON'T READ IT. Not exactly rocket science is it?”

I think some of the objections to the discussion stem from the fact that whilst most of the comments on here aren't negative, we all know that for some people being gay is seen as a negative thing and to speculate about it gives it an apparent relevance which reinforces those negative attitudes in those inclined to think like that.
Also, we all know how easily internet rumours start and it would be all to easy to start "x is gay" rumours to spread way beyond these threads which may cause, at the very least, misunderstandings for those concerned. Some people prefer to keep their sexuality private and it is somewhat discourteous for others to discuss it in public.

Well OK, points taken, but as you've pointed out yourself, this thread is not making any negative points about being gay - and I'm not sure we can be held responsible for reinforcing a negative attitude in anybody who is already disposed to think like that.

In fact, I think it might be almost more 'reinforcing' to pretend such issues are not a valid topic of discussion for those interested. Does that not send out the message that it's something to keep quiet about and is thus somehow 'wrong'?

As for keeping things private, the vast majority of those who have been discussed are publicly 'out', and in several cases confirmed to be so by people who know them personally. So I don't think it's exactly a secret.

Only Kieron is the subject of any is-he-or-not speculation, which I admit makes me a little uncomfortable - I'm not sure we should be trying to put a label on a 17-year-old lad while he's growing up in the public eye.

You could also argue the opposite though - that many see it as a positive thing - and speculating about it gives relevance which reinforces positive attitudes...

Lol. I was gonna say - he joined Hollyoaks about 3 or 4 years ago, and I'm pretty sure he wasn't 13 at the time!
