Bird identification
Bryan Spink
25-01-2010
Not really a pet but I saw this bird in my garden the other day and I can't identify it. Can anyone help? It was a little bit bigger than a sparrow. The head is to the left.

BIRD

Thanks

Looks like a Bullfinch to me. They seem to be quite rare now, I've never seen one.

Thanks but it doesn't look like the Bullfinch on the RSPB site
BULLFINCH
It was grey with a black head. There was a bright coloured bird around at the same time (same size). They both seamt to be attracted to berries on Honeysuckle.

Male bullfinches have the pretty colour and the females have the drab colour.

Sounds like you had a Mr and Mrs interested in your honeysuckle berries.

I'm glad I saw this thread - we've had one of those in our garden too (on honeysuckle again) I thought it was a coal tit, but it's deffo a girly bullfinch having seen the pics here!
