Why Peak Calls Cost Us More?

I know the answer before i even ask... because the network's only think about money money money.

But why charge us more to make a phone call at 3pm but charge us alot less at off peak and mobile phone off peak is about 7.30pm and not 6pm like on BT (forgive me if im wrong).

Surely if they charge the same during the day... more people would make phone calls during the day instead of using the landland or waiting til night time.

Thats what logical Virgin Mobile thought, and they sorted it. Same rates all day. 3 Have done the same, you are choosing to pay more. Just because companies can.

it's the same as any off peak service (electricity) off peak are the hours where there is less demand for the service! It encourages users to fill all of the otherwise wasted badwidth, and operators get the best use from their networks!!

Most businesses run during 'peak' times, so the mobile phone (and other companies) know that no matter how much they charge, their services HAVE to be used during these times.

You would think more people use the phone at offpeak times because they are at work during the day.

LOL business / commerce generates more phone traffic than residential lines ever will!
Just think if everyone in an office has a phone at their desk, they are making internal calls, calls to clients, calls to other offices, calls to other employees who are out etc...

Business will always have a much higher demand for telephony!

The phone lines are very BUSY at peak times. Hence the word peak. So if you charge more people do not use the phone for anymore than nessasary, making sure that there is bandwidth always available, because there is not an endless supply of bandwidth for these phone calls. But like has been said earlyer, calls are cheaper off peak because there is LOADS of bandwith spare, and its not making them money not being used, so cheap calls to encourage you to use it more....

Its easy, but obviously the woman off the 3 advert is thick because "she does not get it". Maybe its because during the day everyone wants to listen to her CD, and is in high demand, and during the evening nobody wants to?
