not cold water no, but my fancy goldfish tank stays at a constant 75* and i have never been able to lower it. some people keep fancies in a heated tank too not that i would. ive known of some people to house balas and tinfoils with goldfish, it doesnt mean it would work every time they may just be lucky.

In Asia goldfish are kept everywhere, homes, outside, offices etc..

The ambient temperature remains at constantly 30*c + year round. Thus people keep coldwater fish (goldies, koi, sterlets etc) together with Oscars, clarias catfish, infact anything that will get along (and not get eaten ). I'm not saying that it's right, but Asia is one of the largest sppliers of the worlds supply of Coldwater fancy fish, and if they're bred and reared in tropical conditions - then so be it.

putting it that way i suppose you.re right. I.ve got it in my head that goldfish in heated tanks over here grew bigger more quickly and had a shortened lifespan. I.ve no idea why i think that so its probably rubbish lol

they do grow bigger faster in warmer water but as far as i know its due to their metabolism being quicker. im not sure exactly how it works, but im guessing if their metabolism is working faster they may die sooner. not sure. i thought the reason for not keeping goldfish in warmer water was due to their high oxygen requirements which are harder to allow for in warmer water

my goldfish are in water which is at a constant 74-75*, i have never been able to lower it and they seem ok in there but i do have a lot of surface aggitation to try to allow maximum oxygenation for them all.
