16 yr old westie is peeing indoors

for the last month or so my 16yr old westie has been peeing inside the house for at least once a week.tonight just before i was going to take him out he did it in the hall way and about 2 hours later when he was asleep, he jumped up sneezed and urinated again.
and
for 16 he's in ok health (he has tablets for his liver, deaf and gone blind in 1 eye), his coat still looks amazing and we still get asked how old our puppy is !!!

is the urinating due to old age or could it be something serious.my old dog poodle had diabetes and died at 10 and i know that was painful.
the odd thing is he goes out in the garden about 10 at night and not go out again to 7 am and he doesn't pee in the house
my dog has been my life for 16 years and never spent 24 hours apart.
i hate going to the vets but do you think i should ?

Always worth a visit if you are worried, as if something happened you would always regret it, I dont mean to be a harbinger of doom, hopefully its nothing serious but you will have peace of mind & know you did something about it.
16 is a decent age & it may be a factor, good luck anyway.

Not a vet - my guess would be age related. The wetting when sneezing happens to some elderly humans (and pregnant ones!), perhaps getting confused (knowing he is meant to wee but forgetting to wait till outdoors)

However, everything seems to slow down as they get older including immune response so a UTI could be a possibility and easily diagnosed with a urine sample.

Not sure what I'd do. Probably go to the vet for a check up. Definately would if it continues.

I've got 5 14 year olds, dogs that is, not a dog expert but hey, I must be doing something right.

One of the boys, who I don't think Ever made a mistake as a puppy, lept to his feet one night and peed all over the sitting room floor. Thanks goodness for laminate. He's a big lad, so 'copious' comes to mind. Also, for a while he'd been in the habit of getting to where ever he wanted to go and just standing there, just standing.

The vet thought it might be dementia, and prescribed Vivitonin for him, and he's been fine ever since. No more indoor peeing and I would say a 90% reduction in vacant standing. Might be worth asking the vet.

Apparently, not every animal responds to Vivitonin but I have another one on it too - her personality altered greatly after an attack of Vestibular Syndrome, and she's very much better with it too.
