Not all modern music is bad. Though some of it can be very repetitive. There are a growing number of modern artists that are really good and maturing nicely into this new decade.

I listen to modern music because it's enjoyable. I don't care if it's "cheap" or "won't be remembered in 10 years" or whatever. If I like a song, I buy it. I hate those snobs who look down their noses at people who listen to todays chart music.

![]() No, I have nothing against chart music, if people like it then good, and a lot of the people are good singers, it's just managment force them to mime. That's what annoys me

I haven't seen The Saturdays perform Ego live on TV yet and it's gutting because I want to show everyone how good they are live yet everytime they mime my friends just think "humph, 'cos they can't sing live |

My issue is with "producers" taking other people's songs and sampling them to death; often with a rapper and a girl warbling over the top. Awful.

Shadow do you listen to any older music from either the 60s 70s or 80s or do you ONLY listen to modern music.
And Shadow, I agree with The Saturdays. I'm not a fan of theirs, but I remember seeing this short video of Rochelle singing Forever Is Over on the advent calander, and she was really good. I don't get why management won't let them sing live? ![]() But the likes of Britney CHOOSE to mime, which is just lazy imo, making her unworthy of a record deal, as much as I like her. |

That's not to say I like everything in the charts, but I hate this idea some people seem to have that if that's the kind of music you like, your opinion on anything to do with music is somehow less valid than someone who listens to older/obscure music. |

I'm willing to try anything, but I must admit the majority of my iTunes is full of modern chart music.

Also, people seem to use pop music as a synonym for chart music. Just because I'm a pop fan doesn't mean I like all the stuff in the chart, or that I buy everything thats been featured on the X Factor. Theres a lot of good pop music that doesn't feature in the charts and doesn't get radio airplay. So I don't know how people can criticise pop as a genre, when they've probably never heard the best examples of it. And I can't stand people who look down on others because of their taste in music - its basically just ignorance and arrogance. I personally dislike rock music, but I don't go around saying its rubbish and putting down everyone who likes it. I think I'm grown up enough to appreciate that different people have different tastes. I think Digital Spy should have two separate forums, one for "real music" and one for "fake music". I would happily spend all my time in the fake music section ![]() ETA: Oh and talking about Popjustice, their top story at the moment is about real music v pop music. I especially like the bit at the end: http://www.popjustice.com/index.php?...389&Itemid=206 |
