Here here! *claps*

Well, maybe not the best (I personally believe that coveted spot goes to the Sugababes).

No! I'm only joking. Queen or Oasis are my favourite band of all time. But Radiohead are definately up there in my top four.

For me "real music" is anything that doesn't make me want to turn the radio off. Or in the case of Smooth Jazz hurl it in the Thames.

Only if you have the cultural knowledge of an amoeba...

so if the person writing the song is not in the band or the people playing the instruments are not official band members then the music is somehow not real??

was Pavarotti's music not real because he didn't write his songs and didn't play instruments?

If you need to ask , then you will never understand the answer. It's patently obvious to those in the know.

I think Speigel summed it up in one really.

"real music" doesn't make sense and anyone stupid enough to use that term should be ignored imo. Just listen to what you like and don't worry about what other people think of it.

The people who decide to use the term 'real music' are worse than the people who only listen to things in the top 40- they're both pretty bad, but at least the latter usually have the excuse of being young.
For example, people who think any music that bothers the chart automatically becomes meaningless- what's the point in trying to make a statement if you don't want that statement to be heard?

It makes me laugh when people claim that they dislike something purely because it's "too mainstream", even if they've never seen or heard it. This applies to music, television and films.

Certain people will try to argue that if music is mainstream (whether it be rock, pop or even hip-hop) then it's obviously not "real music" and is not worth listening to...

all music is real music, lmao.

When people use the term 'real' in relation to music it is simply an attempt to give credibility to the music they like and take credibility away from the music they don't like.

It is completley subjective and the hilarious thing is that no one really knows what they mean when they say it, it's just them trying to win an arguement about something that is not governed by any kind of rhyme or reason.

Music is a matter of taste, can't be dissected, explained, predicted etc etc

When someone uses the term 'real music' I immediatley turn off it, to me it just weakens their whole arguement/opinion.

"real" music, I guess is the same as beauty... it's in the eyes (or should that be ears???) of the beholder
