signal quality on iPhone?
I have read a few threads that signal quality on the iPhone is not as good as conventional phones - has anyone found this to be the case?
Also I understand the O2 and Vodafone networks run on 900 and 1800hz and that the 900hz signal reaches into buildings etc better than say Orange and TMobile which are ~1800hz only. Is this correct too? Mike |

the iphone used to be pretty bad with reception. Mine is the 3g and it was a shocker on o2 for 3g (didnt exist) signal strength.
Vodafone has good comprehensive coverage although i have never used it on my iphone. Ive been using mine on three, i havent had a problem with the 3g signal at all, i travel a good 18 miles in the car to work and i can be on the phone for the whole time and not drop a call (blue and me integrated on my car before people start having a hissy fit about driving and talking on a mobile) and thats from driving in the middle of nowhere to driving through towns and villages so i wouldnt say the iphone is rubbish with regards its signal, its more down to the network. I have been with all networks in the past and i would have to say that vodafone is better with coverage in terms of that its solid indoors and out, then i have to admit that three even though they where absolute pants a few years back have really pulled there socks ups and got things sorted. Plus they are bloody cheap on pay as you go, great little internet bundle for surfing on the go thrown in every time you top up. So this is my little list regarding networks and 3g coverage. 1st place Vodafone 2nd place suprisingly three 3rd place orange 4th t-mobile 5th o2 they have a very strong 2g network but totally non existent 3g coverage where i live/work/play etc. it will be different for everybody, i wouldnt worry about the iphone regards signal its no worse than any other phone, your best off checking coverage of each network and working out what is best for you. For all i know you could be living in a excellent 3g area for o2 but a non existent one vodafone. |

i had pretty awful signal quality when i had a o2 iphone. my £80 nokia 6300 had better quality! if you care about call quality/signal reception, don't buy an iphone.

My iPhone has better reception than my N95 and Xperia but my K800 blows it away. Seems the more there is packed into a phone the less they bother with it having good reception.
Oh and I am on O2. |

i'm o2 and i get an okay signal.. sometimes it fades out and looses connection but not often.
however the iphone is generally accepted as having a fairly average phone. the quality of the calls aren't great and people often complain that they sometimes can't make out what i'm saying. i think i remember an iphone review that said 9/10 for an mini-computer, 5/10 for an actual phone |

It's O2 that is causing the bad voice quality. I have had both O2 and Orange iphones. Orange voice quality is better.

This is entirely dependant on where you live and what services you have closest. Personally I find the sound quality of my iPhone calls excellent on O2.
We have three phones in the house on three different providers. to be honest they all have the same strength here. I have put the other sims in the iPhone and the call quality is just as good on all three. |

interesting. i had read various reviews of it from people both here and in the states (where its bound to at&t) both saying the quality of the actual phone wasn't great. maybe it is quality of the network that gave it the bad score

I've always used Orange and never been a problem. But as stated it's where you live.
