Cool. But is the lack of Flash support just an oversight?

The tablet PC will be the end of notebooks and laptops.

That looks like my ipod touch? I'm disappointed

I'm not seeing it actually DO any more than an ipod touch does, yet.

Yeah, 'cos typing is overrated anyway? It's just the latest fad of an industry that thrives off making gullable consumers think that they need the latest and greatest. Tablets are a niche that very few people can actually make daily use of.

Are you really that attached to your keyboard that you can't imagine using an on-screen keyboard?

I find it hard to type properly as there is no tactile feedback. It's okay for one finger typing, I suppose. But I have to look at the keyboard while typing.

Doesn't look that useful to me. Looks just like a bigger version of the iPod Touch and will probably cost twice the amount of the iPod.

On screen keyboards suck + I don't really want my screen covered in grime and finger prints. It's ok for a small device but I really don't see the point in a 10incher. You'll want a cover to protect that screen anyway, which is more hassle than just closing a lid. The thin-ness is still limited by the size of the ports and hardware so it's not going to be much thinner than various netbooks already on the market. Oh and you'll be forced to hold it with at least one hand severly limiting your interaction - multi-touch or not; else you'll be staring down at it on your lap/table giving yourself sh*t viewing angles and a bad neck. That and there's no discernable benefit from having a tablet form for day-to-day tasks and it doesn't even have a superior battery life to current netbooks on the market despite having weaker hardware. The only good use I can see is for electronic magazine/newspaper subscription - something e-readers already do better, since they strain the eyes less.

Am I missing something?

What, like all the other tablet computers before it. The only difference here is the logo.

More like x3 the amount.

Cant see you'll do a lot of typing on it to be frank.

Looks quite a sweet bit of kit - is there a market for it though?

Apple must think so. How much will it cost?

The potential profits don't lie with the device but by having another platform for itunes. These days apples are aspiration status symbols - the people who couldn't afford a macbook will go for this iTurd instead just for the sense of self-satisfaction. There's definitely a market, albeit a missguided one.

In complete agreement with you. I can see the appeal of an iPod Touch, or iPhone; it fits in your pocket, and gives you a lot of portable bang for your buck. But where does a tablet form factor become beneficial? As you say, the fact of it being a tablet is not very ergonomic. It's basically an oversized iPod Touch.

They're saying only some of them will support 3G. It must be going to be a range of pricing with different options and flash memory.

That's been the consensus since the rumour mill started to get in to full swing, so not surprising.

Aha!

Expensive compared to the average netbook.

Doesn't even have a built-in stand - though I guess that would make it look like a glorified eFrame...

iFail.

Look at existing Tablets; do they have a built in frame? Nope.
I hope Apple aren't expecting to sell millions of these things, it's too big for day to day use, and may struggle to fit in to the 'business' environment, as well as the home.

Prices don't actually seem that horrendous to me - in Apple world $499 should equate to around £400, and $829 to around £660. Far more reasonable than the $999 that was being bandied about in the press anyway! Will be interesting to see if Apple get any decent data deals tied in with it over this side of the pond though.

Hmmm a lot of money to outlay. Looks nice but I just feel cheaper and better, or at least 'as good' is just around the corner.

Of course in any other world $499 should equate to about £300 but of course apple have a habit of taking the price, converting it and then adding a few hundred quid on for no reason

By the time youve put it in a case to protect the screen when it's in your bag, it will be the same size as a netbook.
