I just watched half of the ad on apple.com. I had to stop because it was like a Scientology promotional video.

The iPad - what's the point! It's just showoffware. Boring.

If eBook readers (that will load books for any source) were £30 or so I'd get one of those - but at over £100 each, I could buy a whole stack of paperbacks for that.

But I would pay, say, £250 for a device that's somewhat more flexible that's roughly the same size.

This is a little bit too big - I'd say an A4 or Letter size pad would be fine, but this looks a little bigger. Even so, I'd consider it, or a similar product, at the right price.

It's got to be able to survive being dropped too. Very often these things are too fragile for practical day to day use.

The video is in Quicktime (Quicktime is an Apple product itself - free in it's basic form, but pointless now). So, no one with any sense is going to download that just to watch a promo video. They should have put it on YouTube or something.

But here's a suitable alternative actually on YouTube. Click Here

You may be right that some Apple Fanboys will buy it but this Apple fanboy will not buy into what i see is just a cumbersome larger iPod Touch, i would have preferred to have seen a Apple Netbook not this lump of crap.

I smell apples first epic fail of the decade (or last decade) on this. Its the first apple product I'm not bothered about or say wow on launch.

Its not original

Its way way to expensive

Its a bigger version of my iPod touch.

My laptop was much cheaper, has a camera, keyboard and more flexibility.

even fanboys were dreaming of full OSX in the mock ups and fakes

I believe apple have followed Microsoft lead and will be using the following slogan for their adverts for the iPad

"I'm an iPod touch, and the iPad was the exact same idea as me"

meh. I can't be bothered responding to the negativity here other by saying the iPad is exactly what I, personally, require in a portable device. That is all.

What a strange/pointless product.

I had high hopes for this with all the rumours of it, a proper, portable touchscreen netbook sort of thing.

I can't really add anything that hasn't already been said, I just don't understand why it's not capable of multitasking? It is like someone has literally just pinch-zoomed an iPod Touch rather than actually developed anything that could be somewhat revolutionary like the iPod Touch/iPhone was.

I was expecting proper browsing, office and at least one USB port.

Totally poor show. No point in this although hopefully it can lead the way to a properly good touchscreen coming onto the market soon, an accessible and great one.

No USB port. Then it's doomed, without one you can't use a keyboard or mouse. The onscreen keyboard is no good for touch typists like me, when I want to load it with information - such as address/phone book info or taking notes.

Missed that link. What's funnier is that video is from 2006 and still Apple went with that name

I'm confused about USB on this, it seems to suggest a 30 pin to USB connector will be available, but that it maybe crippled somehow to only allow videos and picture transfer.

Given no (proper) USB, for mobile broadband on this I'd have to pay extra for a 3G version, then a monthly bill for a data package. Whereas I can just plug my existing phone/dongle into a cheaper netbook .. am struggling to see a reason why I should buy an ipad.

Multitasking will come in with the 4.0 OS.

I'm not so sure I would purchase this as an ebook reader. I'm sure you'd end up getting eyestrain.

I suppose though it is a media device. It's good that it will work with Apple wireless keyboards. I've never been that keen with integrated cameras, so I don't care about that. I also assume you would be able to tether it to a phone so wouldn't be forced to buy the 3g tablet.

It would be interesting to see how long it takes to jailbreak this.

If you look back when the ipod was first released people were saying how crap they would be and it would be the end of Apple. How wrong people were.

My £250 touch laptop has all that and converts into a tablet. They'll probably add them one by one in a million updates forcing everyone to buy them again and again.

Right. so this is supposed to be a replacement for netbooks is it? How can it possibly not have multitasking? Are you saying I can't listen to music on it whilst writing an email? I can't look at photos whilst leaving a wegpage open at the same? This alone guarantees that I will not buy this product.

The iPhone lets you listen to music while doing other things. No reason the iPad wont either. I can't imagine why anyone would want to look at photos at the same time as browsing a webpage but if they did, they'd go out of the safari app, into photos, look at some pretty pictures then go back into safari and the page they were on will still be loaded.

The lack of multitasking doesn't make the iPad suck. The fact they've just taken an existing product (the iPod touch) and made it 4 times larger and a bit more expensive does though

That and the fact it's a glossy screen - not exactly ideal for general reading.

The availability of multi-tasking allows for innovation.

pretty pictures or not. it is a £400 effort that cannot handle multitasking. it sucks.

I agree with others. Multitasking will come. They want to sell it to people again and a again.
