Sorry so late with the result folks but was out later than expected, but I can reveal in what was a fairly comprehensive result, the band leaving in 6th place with 20% of the vote is....

The Smiths!

Morrissey and the Smiths saw off some heavy hitters in the last two rounds but unforuntately it was the end of the road for the Manchester band, they had a fantastic competition though rising from their 12th position last year to 6th. And now singing us out it's

The Smiths with the mesmorizing How Soon Is Now

The Smiths may well have been a cooler band for a very short period of time but Queen's back catelogue across a few decades blows them out of the water, frankly.

The same can be said of the comment made by Pitman about The Smiths though. Whether you like a band like Queen or The Smiths or not it costs nothing to show a bit of respect for them. To say it's a "joke" that a band like Queen have stayed in over The Smiths is disrespectful.

I acknowledge quite freely the impact The Smiths had in those few short years they were together and continue to have to this day. But no one can deny the vast cultural impact and endeuring influnce of Queen, surely? Even if The Beatles had lost out to Queen it wouldn't be a joke. The bands that remain here are all iconic groups for one reason or another. It makes one seem a sore loser to suggest otherwise frankly.

I wasn't saying either of you were right or wrong. I happen not to like Queen, but to assume my favouring of The Smiths indicates I have no respect for them is a bit wide of the mark.

I wasn't actually referring to you since you weren't the one who said it was a joke they had stayed in over the The Smiths.

Indeed in my very first line I point out that it was Pitman I was referring to in that regard.

The only point that related to you directly was your 'if you like queen' comment could easily be used in exactly the same context about the smiths. However I like to think ones appreciation for music can extend beyond personal preference, which Pitmans clearly doesn't if they can be so dismissive of a band with the status that Queen have

My comment was a response to the "blows them out of the water" part. I don't think that's strictly true, however I feel about The Smiths or Queen. If music is subjective, I can respect the achievements of a band without necessarily thinking they're better than another, regardless of either's success.

I possibly could have worded that a bit better, but i think that that was in responce to the tone taken by the poster i replied to. And really i think my point was more that Queen have a vast back catalogue of music that has remained popular and well loved by many people over many decades. The Smiths obviously were a much shorter lived band but still produced some of the definitive music of the 1980's nonetheless. At the end of the day, had The Smiths won the vote off, I would not have resorted to calling it 'a joke' since it patently wouldn't have been. It would perhaps have been a shock result, but that is another thing altogether.

In all honesty my least favorite of the top 6 bands was actually The Who, whom I have never really "got" but appreciate they have been very influncial to a great many people.

I think that's a fair enough comment, although I certainly can't speak for the other poster.

certainly that is an irony of the outcome of the vote off....The queen is dead, long live the queen, well at least for one more round anyway!

wonder who's in the bottom two this round anyway.

congrats on showing yourself up...."creepy gits"??? Why? Because one of them was gay?

"dadrock"? A band that combined a huge veriety of musical styles and influnces in their career. A band that had a huge influnce on acts such as Wyclef Jean through to The Darkness? Yeah right.

oh yes I'll show my homophobia when I am backing Morrissey

so they influenced the Darkness, a comedy band, don't forget Spinal Tap as well?

to give them their dues though they were pretty average
