I just don't care enough about them. The dad getting deported was the best news ever! Tariq is alright he has a slight personailty but the others are all terrible actors and it doesn't feel like they fit in EE. The writers are trying so hard to make the family a big part of the square but its not working. I couldn't stand all that storyline with Tariq it seemed to drag on and on. Glad the Wats are back in the spotlight now.

Hah. And while they're away the clothes stall gets robbed.. by Alfie. Who uses the money he got for selling their stock to pay off Andy, and the whole Indecent Proposal scenario is thrown out the window and we're at least spared that irritating cliche!

I dunno if I agree with you there.. for a lot of people when they think of EE, it's the Slaters that spring to mind. They're a lot more memorable a family than the ferreiras any day.

I also find it hard to believe that the "Walford" building society let them get away with not paying the mortgage for 10 months. Does this building society not have a telephone?? Most banks and building society's will ring if you dont reply to letters, before the baliff comes knocking. Do the Ferriera kids never answer the phone even when Dan's away?
Everything about the Ferriera's storylines from day 1 has been dull and boring, that kidney fiasco, Ash's gambling, Tariq, Adi's love and hate for Dan - who cares??
I say send them to India to find Dan and let them never return.

Lol, the building society probably rang them once while they were out and never tried again. The Ferreiras put this technique into action quite often themselves.

To be fair, in a rare moment of realism, a month or two ago Adi was shown going through a batch of 'official' looking letters addressed to dan, then deciding not to open them and shoving them in a drawer.

That is true but the likelyhood of the building society not ringing up (i mean more than once) to check what was going on is pretty far fetched for a soap that likes to be "real". I worked in a building society for 2 years and the baliffs were a very final resort, telephone contact would always come first. It's hard to believe they didnt try at all once Dan was gone!

To be honest I think the Ferreiras are symptomatic of the current decline in EE. To be honest the BBC should admit defeat and loose them now. I also think the Andy Hunter character is utterly unconvincing and should disappear. They have ruined Alfie Moon, he used to be funny and happy go lucky. Now I want to climb into my tv and tell Kat what is going on. I really think fans are annoyed that their marriage is hitting the skids so quickly. EE has become so fragmented lately. There are endless isolated characters such as Gus, Kelly, Laura, Minty etc, etc who nobody cares about.

I also think the show has lost a lot of credibility by becoming to involved in family feuds and ganster storylines. I feel the show has often had a mysoginistic tone of late since the ill advised return of Dirty Den (worse than Bet Lynch's awful return to Corrie!). The strengths of the show need to be re-developed. Id like to see the writers be more creative with Kat and Alfie and not just break them up. I think they should re-cast Michele and bring her back (with Grant's son in toe). I'd also like to see Peggy return. The BBC and Berridge have to develop new strong characters though and not just keep tempting back people who have left. It often doesn't work.

About 3 years ago EE was beating Corrie hands down. Oh how times have changed! Corrie is head and shoulders above EE these days and looks like it will continue going from strength to strength.

EE problem too many trendies working for it who think they should decide what we like. Cut the strings admit defeat and ditch them now.

Andy Hunter is totally unconvincing in the part he plays in EE a waste of space. Even Minty is more frighteneing

Alfie was a breath of fresh air into a failing EE. So what do they do they make him as miserable as the rest of them. Happy go lucky Alfie was able to charm himself into running a pub so a little thing like dealing with a pantomime crook like andy would be childs play to him

Get rid of the useless characters or else give them a decent storyline. Im thinking about Gus here, another good actor wasted

As for Peggy returning NNNNNNNOOOOOOOO she was a one dimensional character who was well past her sell by date even in the Carry on films

When they brought The Slaters in everyone hated them too, and a few of them could still be got rid of without much of a problem (Zoe and little Mo eg who have been in and out without it really affecting the family dynamic) People keep talking abuot what a waste the Di Marco's were but equally, Beppe had some good story lines with Sandra the Ex, Gianni was brilliant and also got some good stuff out of his fling with that sawalha sister, and the daughter whose name I can't recall was involved with the whole Steve Owen, matthew ashtray murder business. I for one have fond memories, even if the mother was appalling. I'm not keen on the ferrerias either, but I think given time there's still hope isn't there?

To be honest I think it's past giving characters storylines. Characters like Gus lack characterisation, so like with the Ferreiras when they get storylines they are not involving. The problem has been that the characters are not being defined enough these days. The more I think about it the more Im beginning to think that EE might be in real trouble and not just going through a bad patch. In fairness the show should be at peak quality now after the return of Dirty Den. But it really hasnt worked. As I said earlier I hope they will be cautious about bringing back old greats such as Mel Owen or Grant, cos often they end up being pale imitations of before.

What can save EE? And i think we are ultimately talking saving the show... Careful consideration, strong new characters and a return to character rather than plots based around the seamier side of life. They also need to get their casting right which is where Corrie has done much better. The characters on Corrie are more sympathetic and therefor more believeable when they get the big stories.
