Hey on the bright side it's been over a week since we last saw them on screen
Likelihood, rubbery monkey? This is EastEnders, the show that gave you the two disappearing Ferreira parents. If the kids can't use the phone to track down their mum in an emergency, what hope is there of the Building Society getting on the dog&bone?

Yes, it is a while since we saw them isn't it, unfortunately that probably means they're due back on our screens quite soon

It's criminal what they've done to Alfie, he was a very good character and they've reduced him to an uninteresting imbecile. The current Andy Alfie charade has to be one of the most annoying and out of character storylines they've come up with lately (and that's saying something!)

You say that like it's a bad thing
I liked Peggy, she was a good pantomime dame.

The more I think about it the more Im beginning to think that EE might be in real trouble and not just going through a bad patch. In fairness the show should be at peak quality now after the return of Dirty Den. But it really hasnt worked. As I said earlier I hope they will be cautious about bringing back old greats such as Mel Owen or Grant, cos often they end up being pale imitations of before.

What can save EE? And i think we are ultimately talking saving the show... Careful consideration, strong new characters and a return to character rather than plots based around the seamier side of life. They also need to get their casting right which is where Corrie has done much better. The characters on Corrie are more sympathetic and therefor more believeable when they get the big stories.
I agree with all you've said, I think EE really is in a lot of trouble. It needs not just vastly improved storylining but better writing of each ep. Maybe one will flow from the other, but not necessarily. They need to return to character based drama, like Corrie, not plot based gangster nonsense -- arson my a*se. If they don't get that together, there's not point bringing back Mel or anyone else (and I doubt any decent actors will want to return, the state the prog's in at the moment).

I think (whisper it) that even the Ferreiras would benefit from decent scripting and storylining. But I fear we'll never know!

yeah I think it would be better if they involved a dramatic storyline about Dan's exit. Like one day someone find Dan's body buried in the backyard, someone killed him!!!!!!! arrgh! The big question is....who done it? YOU decide! lol

Oh well, just a thought. if it happened, we would get some real action from the most pathetic family in Walford.

Considering Alfie's supposed to have been inside for a while before he arrived on the square, i find it highly unlikely that he'd be such a mug as to borrow money from someone like Andy. There's no way his character was that naive when he first arrived.

About 3 years ago EE was beating Corrie hands down. Oh how times have changed! Corrie is head and shoulders above EE these days and looks like it will continue going from strength to strength.
I totally agree about re-casting Michelle. Shes been gone nearly 10 years now and I think another actress could take over the role with ease, It seems obvious Susan Tully doesnt want to come back, and yet there is still a meaty stroy involving her character (ie Grants baby).
I would like to see Peggy, Phil and Grant all return together at Christmas, although Ross Kemp has said he wont return I think he could probably be persuaded. Although I wonder of the writers have even bothered to think of a credible way of getting Phil out of trouble with the police!
This is EE trouble. The writers have failed to remember that Phil is on the run for armed robbery, there's been no police intrest in Sam or Kate, no survaliance, no prying into Phil's business affairs in fact it's as if the police don't care!! Sam even mentioned recently that she couldnt get Phil "on his mobile" well thats hardly a surprise is it??
Stories just get forgotten or put on the backburner for far too long, and no doubt Phil will get off on some ridiculious technicality (forgetting he escaped from prison, was involved in an armed robbery etc).
I'm not usually in favour of former characters returning but Peggy, Grant, Phil and a new Michelle would be very welcome at the moment, oh and maybe Derek should be put to rest aswell

Hey, Eastenders is so relalistic, don't diss it, the Ferreiras make about £30 some days which supports 5 of them to buy all of their food! Has anyone noticed that the mortgage didn't get paid for about 10 months but we never seem to see them in trouble over other bills. When do we see them go to pay the phone, electric, gas bills etc etc. When WILL l their phone get cut off then? They all have mobile phones too, realistically if I couldn't afford my mortgage I would have sold my mobile phone instead of wasting money using that all of the time just to say 'erm Ash where are you' etc etc. Wouldn't Kareena get a decent job instead of the whole family working on the stall when they are not needed to, it doesn't get that busy. What the hell does Ash do? He is supposed to be a teacher but just seems to wander round all of the time.

EASTENDER Kareena Ferreira is quitting the soap for two months — to have a make-over to turn her into a vamp.

Actress Pooja Shah’s dowdy Albert Square character will be packed off to India.

She will then return to stun Queen Vic regulars as a femme fatale in a move to save the much-criticised Ferreira family.

A show insider said: “The Ferreiras have become a bit of a joke because everybody is speculating that the family may be axed.

“Producers want to turn Kareena into a real sex kitten to rival Zoe Slater as the biggest beauty.

“This will cause a huge stir with her traditional family.”

Bend It Like Beckham star Pooja, 24, recently told how she’d had enough of dull stallholder Kareena.

She said: “I’m fed up with it now. Kareena’s too dowdy. I wanted Kareena to be different, to stand out.

“If I’m completely honest, I can’t stand her — she just grates on my nerves. She hasn’t got many friends, but then I wouldn’t be her friend if I met her.”

An EastEnders spokesman confirmed: “Kareena will leave for a few months — but will return as a very different girl.”

Can't be a good omen if even the actress can't stand the character!

I've kind of lost track of (and interest in) the ins and outs of the mortgage problem. Something to do with Dan supposedly paying it, but actually not I think (the mortgage is in his name). Ash said they could afford the monthly repayments -- but no one will give him a mortgage because he's got a record of bad debts. Not sure how they could afford the repayments because as you say, Ash is the only one with a proper job, the rest of them seem to wander around taking a fiver on the stall every now and then.

The news that even the actress who plays Kareena can't stand her was very revealing -- she's right, Kareena is a boring character with no friends and apparently no life outside bickering with her brothers.
