Battery life (perhaps), user interface, and the cost depending on how competitive the iPad's UK price tag is. Price and simplicity are the iPad's biggest unique selling points at the moment, and I think that it's a good first attempt even though I'm perfectly happy with the netbook I'm typing this message on.

Don't forget that the iPhone wasn't exactly that brilliant when it first launched (no 3G, no video recording, no MMS, no cut and paste) - it wasn't even the first touchscreen phone either - and the iPhone evolved into a relatively competitive product with a decent user interface; the iPad will go down the same route.

Much ado about nothing.

They run a useless stylus interface that is no more than a pointer replacement for a mouse. They're packed with space-taking, heavy and battery hungry components that a tablet doesn't need. It's half-arsed in every way possible. Which is why they've been a massive non-event for years and years.

But ... it isn't their first attempt.

They've done 3 versions of the iPhone, and this is little more than a big iPhone (or iPod Touch). And don't forget the Newton - apple were one of the first players in the PPC marketplace.

A netbook will offer similar (or better) battery life, a wider range of applications, FULL web access - the iPad doesn't do anything better than those.

And the one thing I don't even begin to understand - why that screen aspect ratio? The whole industry is going widescreen, yet they've decided to go for a 4:3 screen? Bizarre.

Final point - it looks okay, but nowhere near as good as some of the other designs that were floating around the web.
