Wow! That about sums that up for me. I absolutely loved it. I was speechless, I cried and I ended up with a huge grin on my face. After the first episode I wasn't sure of Amy but that episode made me love her. Just wow.

I loved Matt and Karen in this, and the Doctor does angry very well, imho. You don't want to get on the bad side of him...and I like that Amy stepped up to the plate so early on in the series.
On the negative side, the plot wasn't as well stiched together as it could have been. |

Ok, thoughts...
- Visuals are beautiful, stunningly beautiful. The city had a very strong Dark City look, but the use of colours, particularly the dominant red was great. - Nice Star Wars references (whether they were made voluntarily or not !) - Story : great start, intriguing as it develops, then feels very rushed with emphasis on violins and with themes (no offence to Moffat who is saying right now on Confidential that he wanted a brand new kind of adventure) that felt a lot of déjà-vu... The Magpie sign was really cool because it was just something in background, but re-using the brain not so much. All in all, it felt meh. I was much more thrilled by the first episode. - About the characters : I still don't know who this Doctor is. It's nice to see the continuity with what Nine and Ten felt, on a different level. But I still have trouble seeing what is really his. I suppose I'll be able to see it better as episodes go by, it's still early to know him. And I like Amy better than I did last week. So I'm glad of it. |

Felt the plot would have benefitted from another 15 minutes |

I was a bit up and down with that episode.
Some won't be pleased at the lonely doctor theme again or the hugging at the end. It's interesting that Amy gets to question the morality of a Timelord and challenges it successfully because she can already see the problems he faces. I liked the fact that she cooly reacted to things and wasn't over emotional, whereas he was too involved. For me this creates something different about her. Perhaps she is able to take one step back and look around her and then assess the situation. I think I really need to watch again. I noticed the crack so there's something there but no talk of silence. I was reminded also of the TW episode Meat and the theme of human explotation of aliens without really asking them what they want. there are some deep messages here about the nature of humanity and indeed Timelords. I also noticed the Star Wars references/TW - help me Obi Wan and being inside the creature.
