3G Mifi Owners - HELP!
Samurai33
29-01-2010
Hi guys, just received my Mifi dongle and inserted the sim and battery and put the dongle on charge last night for about 10 hours.

When i put it on charge, all the lights went off, nothing on the screen to tell me its on charge, it just looked like its switched off - is this normal?

It appeared to be fully charged before i plugged it in though, so i expect this is the reason?

Secondly, i can't seem to connect. I turn the dongle on, the signal indicator lights up red, and then 3-4 seconds later it switches off? Anybody got any ideas what the problem is?

When it's switched off and charging, the green light will blink every few seconds. If it's fully charged then nothing will happen, so it sounds like it was already fully charged as you say.

Regarding getting it connected, just switching on isn't enough. There are three buttons on the right hand side - power, connect and wifi. I haven't got mine in front of me and I can't remember which button is which, but basically you need to hold down the connect button for a second or two till the connected light comes on, and you'll need to switch on the wifi separately as well. The details are all in the manual

One thing - if the signal indicator stays red then you've got no signal. It will go either green or amber when there's a signal, depending how strong it is.

Cheers mate, i switched it on with the power button and then pushed each of the other buttons, in the end i managed to connect up to the net but the wireless single indicator was still in red

Also, all the lights seem to go out after a couple of seconds, but its still connected, but it then difficult to know if its still switched on (and draining the battery) or switch off......is yours like this?

Yep, the lights do go out after a few seconds. There's another thread on here where someone else is complaining about the same thing - seems that's just how it is....

it says to charge it for 12 hours
mine was fully charged after an hour
red signal could indicate just a poor reception area

yep all the lights are supposed to go out
if you are unsure of the quality of the signal then
if you press the top button (connect) they will all light up briefly so you can see the signal status

it would have been a good idea if the unit automatically switched itself off , after say 15 minutes of internet inactivity .
