Just installed Freesat+
Hey,
Just got my Freesat Humax HDR up and running today. Picture quality looks good from what I gather, just to see what would happen I went to "Manual Tune" and it installed a load more channels but nothing very interesting. Some of them are Sky Channels but others are labelled like UKTV G2+1 (Dave Ja Vu surely?) and says "This channel is scrambled or not currently available. I can switch between Freesat and non Freesat Channels though (I'm using the same satellite as my parents use for Sky - just with a Quad LNB). That's all right, right? I mean, installing the "non freesat channels" is fine?Channel 4, for example, is repeated about 5 times in "Non Freesat Channels". |

It sounds as if you chose the all option ewhen scanning for non-freesat channels. This picks up encrypted channels you can't watch. Best to use the FTA option.

Yes, that's all fine! I've got about 20 "useful" non-freesat channels saved, things like propeller, scuzz, nme tv, horse & country, luxe HD, brit shorts, a couple of movies channels i think, paranormal tv... but most of it is indeed what you've already got on freesat, or encrypted for sky, or multiple versions of the same channel.

Maybe I'll rescan again, thanks
Pointless having channels encrypted for Sky.Hopefully the amount of HD content will increase somewhat. I just this second discovered I have to update my box which I'm doing now

Hi Graham, It would be good if the filter actually worked though. When I've scanned FTA I stil get things like UKTV Docs, UKTV Food and TCM to name a few, the non-freesat mode is riddled with encrypted channels.

Not the boxes fault, there are quite a few encrypted channels being broadcast that don't have their encryption flag set.

I have notice this to. Is it because the channels are “off air” and therefore get mistaken for FTA. ?

grimtales1, be careful when viewing in non freesat mode if you have programmes set to record.
As far as i know, you cannot watch in non-freesat mode if you are recording something in freesat mode. I think it asks you to switch back to freesat mode when a recording is about to start, but it doesn't ask you if you go into non-freesat mode less than 15 mins before a recording starts. and in that case you just lose the recording. I think ive got that correct. Im sure someone will correct me if not. I never use non-freesat mode because of this as it basically makes the non-freesat mode effectively useless and i have no idea why humax have not fixed it. |

I noticed when I switch to "HDMI 2" on my TV (the connection the box is in), the screen turns green for a sec or so before the picture comes up
Is this due to a poor/cheapo lead (I'm just using the one that came with the box) or shall I just leave it?

It's the HDCP syncronising - more expensive HDMI leads would be no different, just a rip-off.
