iPod Touch Video Controls

I'm having real problems getting the rewind/pause/fast forward control to appear when playing back videos.

I'm just upgraded to firmware 3.1 and wondered if Apple have introduced a different way of doing it. Previously I just touched the screen whilst a video was playing and the controls would appear. There appears to be nothing wrong with the touch response of the screen as all other functions are working fine.

Any advice would be greatful.

Running 3.1.2 on my Touch and the controls appear as they always do, with a tap of the screen.

Do you think there is a problem with the firmware update?

It does seem to be a problem specific to video playback.

What does restore actually do? I get a message saying it will my iPod back to it's factory settings. Does this mean back to the previous firmware version?

I think this may be a bug in 3.xxx I have found that on my phone that sometimes while playing a video and touching the screen the controls do not come up and I have to press the home button. This only happens now and then and not every time I play a video.
