Thought I'd continue on this theme with a slightly more recent chart and see what thoughts and memories it sparks

01.Blondie - Heart Of Glass
02.Ian Dury And The Blockheads - Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick
03.The Three Degrees - Woman In Love
04.The Village People - YMCA
05.Earth, Wind And Fire - September
06.Olivia Newton-John - A Little More Love
07.Driver 67 - Car 67
08.ABBA - Chiquitita
09.Racey - Lay Your Love On Me
10.The Shadows - Don't Cry For Me Argentina
11.Paul Evans - Hello This Is Joannie
12.Chic - Le Freak
13.Barry White - Just The Way You Are
14.Billy Joel - My Life
15.Funkadelic - One Nation Under A Groove
16.Dr Feelgood - Milk And Alcohol
17.Third World - Cool Meditation
18.Chaka Khan - I'm Every Woman
19.Sally Oldfield - Mirrors
20.Rocky Sharpe And The Replays - Rama Lama Ding Dong

Meanwhile Jim Callaghan was PM, Jimmy Carter was US president, Doctor Who was just getting the last segment of the Key to Time and it was the week of the event that inspired a No1 later that year:

We were in the winter of discontent, and the weather wasn't too great either.

Well all I can say is that the music on this chart is a hundred times better than the garbage around now.

I take it you've not had the pleasure of numbers 11 and 20?

Aye, but it's one or two naff songs out of 20, as opposed to a ratio of about 16 or 16, which seems to be the norm nowadays.

Add number 07 to that list - horrendous song. (And possibly 09).

Some good stuff though - Chic, Funkadelic, Ian Dury, Earth Wind and Fire.

Might need to dig these out of the collection and give them a spin.

2 Billy Joel songs at consecutive positions in the chart, quality songwriter! For those who don't know the Barry White song is a cover of Billy's earlier hit.

At least 07 was meant to be a comedy one (I think) - Racey were Chinn and Chapman based, just like Blondie at No1. They also did the original "Mickey" (as "Nicky"). I don't think they succeeded as a boybamd though - too old and not pretty enough.
