Hi

I've looked back a few pages, but basically if I buy a PAYG iphone from tesco direct, can this be unlocked by a phone shop to use with another UK carrier?

Cheers

Depends what Tesco's unlocking policy is. As said above Tesco use o2's network so theres no problem there but T-Mobile is a seperate entity. It might be worth asking Tesco what the unlocking policy is- it may be a simple £15 charge.

Hi dangermouse1986,

I'm part of Vodafone's Web Relations team and would like to offer some help and advice.

Tesco will only provide an unlocking code for their iPhones after 12 months if you've purchased it outright, or at the end of your contract on pay monthly. http://phone-shop.tesco.com/iphone-h...elp-faqs.asp#5

You can still use an O2 SIM card in the phone as Tesco Mobile runs of and is part of O2's network, so the phone from Tesco is essentially locked to O2.

If you have any other questions we have our own Twitter page where we also provide support, follow us and we're on call whenever you have a question!

Hope this helps,

Orange unlock their iphone handsets after three months usage for a £20 fee Pay go or Monthly. I have just asked for my unlocking and its being processed as we speak.

I am not sure what vodafone policy is on this? Helen?

People have managed to get Tesco iPhones unlocked by O2 (get yourself an O2 SIM with at least £15 on and put it in the phone for a bit so that it registers on the O2 network and then fill in the form on this page). It will cost £15 but it's completely official and then you'll be able to use any SIM and update the firmware without fear of losing the unlock.

My work mobile is with o2 which I don't pay for (but the company does obviously!!).

Could I put that in the iPhone to get it unlocked?

Thanks for the info
