I wasn't trying to slag you there, Rob. I was just saying that the human ear isn't a miracle at receiving waves in the air either, with its limited capabilities. Anyway, each to his own.
I think one should use reasonable compromises. Digital music with lossy compression can still sound good with a proper device. I went through 3 different ipods (2x nano 1x itouch), step one was to get rid of the original earphones. It was an improvement, but still rather bland. Before that I had Sony player, forgot the model, but it had a LED display with one line of text and whole 2 GB of disc space. Sounded great, but I wanted more, video playback etc so I got the ipods (and gave them away to family one after another
). Currently I have Zune HD, functionality-wise somewhere between nano and itouch, nice big display, minimalistic UI and as far as I can tell an excellent audio playback.
