How an effigy of a human man in a suit made primarily from cooking fat was able to become the leader of the Conservative party and later Prime Minister of Great Britain.

They made him out of cooking fat? I always wondered how they did it....

Because a lot of his fans are Christians and would frown upon homosexuals being wed?

Bumping

Don't know if this one has been mentioned. Canada's Highway of Tears. An 837 mile stretch of road in British Columbia, since 1969 a number of women have disappeared whilst travelling this stretch of road, over the years 16 bodies have been found, the majority of the missing and deceased are aboriginal women, all hitch hikers.

Talking about our great leader. Does anyone else think that Cameron has a look of those people in old Georgian paintings? Particularly around the eyes.

Update on Robert Kennedy assassination:

http://edition.cnn.com/2012/04/28/ju...gun/?hpt=hp_c2

Quote:
As a federal court prepares to rule on a challenge to Sirhan Sirhan's conviction in the Robert F. Kennedy assassination, a long overlooked witness to the murder is telling her story: She heard two guns firing during the 1968 shooting and authorities altered her account of the crime.

Nina Rhodes-Hughes wants the world to know that, despite what history says, Sirhan was not the only gunman firing shots when Kennedy was murdered a few feet away from her at a Los Angeles hotel.

"What has to come out is that there was another shooter to my right," Rhodes-Hughes said in an exclusive interview with CNN. "The truth has got to be told. No more cover-ups."

Rhodes-Hughes, now 78, tells CNN she informed authorities in 1968 that the number of gunshots she counted in the kitchen pantry exceeded eight -- which would have been more than the maximum Sirhan could have fired -- and that some of the shots came from a location in the pantry other than Sirhan's position.

They could have at least made a seperate neck and head rather than lumping it all into one shape.

Really enjoying this thread. Fascinating stuff. I have made it to page 41 so far, and I am very interested in many of mysteries mentioned.

I have always been interested in the Jon Benet Ramsey case. It's frustrating to think that, if police procedures had been followed correctly, we would know a lot more than we do. I remember watching a two part mini-series that dramatised what was known so far, when I was a teenager. I said to my mum "I can't wait to find out what really happened" as I watched the second part and she said "I don;t think you are going to get the resolution you are looking for". Boy was she right!

Another case, which hasn't been mentioned as far as I have read through the thread is George Smith who disappeared from a cruise ship on his honeymoon in 2005. He is believed to be dead, although foul play was suspected from the start, with his new wife Jennifer coming under suspicion as well. I remember watching her being interviewed along with a head honcho from the cruise company, on Oprah Winfrey. It was very uncomfortable viewing. She was extremely cagey, possibly because she was so drunk on the night of his death, she was found asleep in a corridor of the ship...

All mysteries that intrigue me, although I'm aware that there are so many other missing people not as publicised as the above.

Fred West - were there any more victims? Didn't someone famous buy a big house in rural Gloucs and found "Fred West was here" written beneath the wallpaper or did I dream that?

Dr David Kelly - if his death was down to suicide, why have so many details been sealed away and not to be accessed for decades?

Poltergeists - do such things exist or are they hoax/imaginary?

Jon and UK, I didn't know it was a fact that CR was gay, just knew of the rumours. Anyway, the new Jack the Ripper theory is interesting. Seems to tick a few boxes. So, if true, unsolved because of the position and class of the perpetrator!

It's interesting you mention them both side-by-side. I wonder if there'll still be as much interest in the Maddie case, a century from now, as there is in the case of Jack the Ripper.

I was fascinated by the JonBennet case too. It really challanged my prejudices about parents who put their tots on those pageants. They went through a nightmare losing their child and being accused of it. The mother died of cancer and the father lost his fortune on legal fees etc. Very very sad

They're exactly the same - why do you say they're totally different

There is evidence in the latter case that she died in the apartment, vis a vis a cadaver dog, one which barks when it scents the smell of a dead body, alerting there.
Was established no one had died there previously.

There is also facts regarding massively conflicting statements given by the family and friends. Some proven to have lied. None of that was evident in the Ben Needham case. And Kerry Needham cooperated with police. The mccanns didnt.

So you think she is dead? I don't think the McCanns would be able to hold the pretence up for this long without going insane

The odds are that she is indeed dead. Sad but true. Poor little girl lived just under four years. As for what the Mccanns do think or say I am not interested as they have proven to be......well, never mind, they have made their bed they can lie in it, but no, they k now their child is no more, anyones guess what game they are playing..think money guilt self preservation, staying out of jail, not hard really
