I've got a Humax freesat PVR that i'm trying to get working with iPlayer - I can get to the screen where I can see the iPlayer channels but not get to stream anything

I'm trying to connect the PVR to my laptop [on Windows 7] (which has an inbuilt wireless card in it) to share it's internet connection but am having no joy Are there any guides to go through on this - I have two cat5 cables, one is a crossover, the other not, I've tried DHCP and manual settings but nothing

The recommended way is to use HomePlugs and ethernet cables so the connection is direct with your router.

If your routers in the same room as the HDR then you can connect directly from HDR to router.

You may get someone come along in a minute saying that HomePlugs interfere with ham radio. This has been linked to the BT versions.

I have a AR7030 communications receiver that suffers no such interference when using my Devolo HomePlugs.

BTW, If your getting the iPlayer home screen, you must have a connection there somewhere.

The fact that you see anything at all on iplayer makes me think LAN connection isn't the problem. Is your connection fast enough? 1mbps is the minimum. Go to www.speedtest.net and see whether your connection's fast enough, but also consider what other machines are demanding bandwidth at the time.

It might not be the network that's the problem.

Windows ICS uses the PC to bridge between the two network connections. It might not be capable of delivering a decent throughput.

1) You must have 2Mbps Internet.
2) Do not use crossover Ethernet cable.
3) Yes you can use a PC / Laptop that is on line to have iPlayer with the right cable to join both TV and computer, many of the today PC's come with HDMI which with Windows 7 link fast and work with sound and vision.
4) You can have your Humax box with iPlayer playing with a PC / laptop at the same if you have ISP with over 2Mbps. If you have a router that have cable & wireless.
5) You can download a recorded show from Humax HD PVR using USB stick and put it to a PC to play back.

Humax HD & Humax HD PVR for FreeSat are the only items that can test the BBC iPlayer Beta at this time.

BBC iplayer works with Sony Freesat TV's also.

Why is this.? I have just had a 20 mtr cable given me which I believe is a "crossover" type...(the ends are "reversed" colour cable wise when you look at them ?).....I only wanted this cable to try the i-player with my Humax...I haqve tested it from my router to a PC and it seems to allow internet access and connection to the PC with no apparent problems.

The cable was just for dipping my toe in the water....I would probably go to the expense of the Mains Plug scenarion if I liked the i-player facility.#

I have not yet risked connecting to the Humax is it risky ? or will it just not work ?

Give it a try it shouldn't do any damage, the worst that can happen is it won't work.
