BT are asking for £124.99 to flick a switch and turn my phone line back on after cancelling with Talk Talk (In hindsight I should have transferred the line). That is a crazy charge and will encourage me to stick with my mobile as it will pay for over a year of calls and texts (£10 per month sim only deal), or alternatively Virgin would be happy to provide a land line for zero installation charge with free weekend calls.

Bt are pushing me away and obviously don't want my business, but everyone else does.

It is a regulated flat fee no matter how much (or little) actual work is required.

Hummm So regulated that last year they waived it for 18 month sign ups. Maybe you could post the link to the regulation?

Also when they connected the phone originally (2 years ago) when I moved in the house the fee was only around £30

Seems to me BT think of a number and treble it. Looks like a destructive charge to me.

according to BT website most people don't have to pay this ridiculous charge https://www.productsandservices.bt.c...ction%20charge

I've just been through this fiasco after moving to a brand new house so I would have to pay (4th point on the above) :-

BT....... £125...... work to be carried out by BT OPENREACH

TALK TALK....£69......work to be carried out by BT OPENREACH

SKY...... £49...... (but I talked my way into getting the charge waived) so £0 ....... work was carried out by BT OPENREACH

How can 3rd parties be cheaper than the parent company?

Try calling again and asking for a 'return to donor' reconnection. If your Talk Talk line was not LLU'd at the exchange, RTD may mean you can get connected for nothing.

Worth as try anyway.

If it was LLU'd, there's engineering work to be done at the exchange and you're likely stuck with paying up or not having a line.

Openreach have to treat all service providers equally. It is up to them how much they discount - other than BT of course.
