Just got a FOXSAT-HDR, and very happy with it I am. A couple of questions about running it with a Sony Freesat TV (also new):

1. Connected the Humax to HDMI1 on the TV, yet when I turn the FOXSAT on the TV does not auto switch to HDMI1. It does autosense when I turn on the Sony Bluray player, any settings on the Humax I should change, or even the TV?
2. Set about trying to programme the Humax remote to run the TV & Bluray. All works fine, except I don't know which button on the remote I can use for the AV button on the TV so I can select the HDMI input I want.

In hindsight it is obvious, the 'Source' button..... Still would like to know if the TV can autosense an HDMI input from the Humax.

1. AFAIK the Humax Foxsat HDR does not have auto-detect enabled on the HDMI output so you will have to manually select the relative HDMI input. I have Sony KDL-40W5500 (non-freesat) LCD and have to do this every time. You get used to it.
2. The relative remote code on the Humax remote for my TV is 1505 and the button on the Humax remote to access the various inputs (TV, AV1,2 etc HDMI through to Component and PC) is 'Source' - bottom left.

It is reported to work with Panasonic TV's but as you have found out not Sony ones. Unlike Scart sockets hdmi auto selection is not an industry standard with it being implemented in different ways so generally you need matching equipment to make it work.

Best way is get yourself a Harmony remote which sets up all the bits at the touch of a single button.

I've also tried to get auto-sensing working on my Sony LCD TV.

It doesn't work for the Humax HDR, but I know the TV is able to do this, as I've got it working on my DVD player.

Fingers crossed for the next version of HDR firmware - someone rumoured it may go OTA tomorrow 5th Feb...

I can confirm "auto sense" works with Panny TV's. Also switches my Yamaha AV amp.

Two months on, still hugely impressed with the FOXSAT. The picture it provides on my Sony 40" LCD TV is fantastic in my un-expert opinion! Compared to my old Freeview PVR (Panasonic) the Humax is silent and boots up far quicker.

A couple of (minor) questions:
Can you edit recordings to delete sections? I could on my old Freeview PVR, but guessing you can't on this as I couldn't find it in the manual. Useful for deleting the ads/news out of films if I intend to keep them for a while.
Anyone know the remote code for a Sony 40W5810? I am sure I have been through all the ones listed in the manual, but the up/down directional keys on the Humax remote don't work on the TV.

You can't edit recordings in situ, you can copy them to a usb device edit them using something like videoredo plus and rewrite the edited files back to the USB device using AV2HDR.

Please note that auto source switching via HDMI is not a function of the source but of the "sink" (the TV).

So while a Sony TV and a Sony BluRay switch fine, the same Sony TV won't switch from a Humax - and that's the TV's fault? - interesting idea?.

You know as well as anyone else there is no common standard for auto switching via hdmi. If Humax made it work with a Sony then it won't work as it now does with a Panasonic. Hardly the fault of the Humax box is it

For the HDMI spec:

"Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) wiring is mandatory, although implementation of CEC in a product is optional."

As far as I'm aware Sony support CEC, Panasonic support CEC, and 'presumably' Humax don't? (Pansonic and Sony were two of the HDMI founders). CEC is a recognised standard.

I was under the impression that Panasonic's auto-switched with Humax's (and Sky boxes) by simply detecting a signal on the socket, not by CEC?.

So why won'y my Sony BD player work with a Panny and it does with my Sony. Sony's fault ? Panasonics fault ? or a standard that's immature ?

I would have thought it should?, how old is your Panny TV?, does it predate CEC? - I believe 'Viera Link' is what they call it, Sony call it 'BRAVIA Sync' (everyone calls it something different).

It's not my TV it's a friends and it's a brand new 32" LCD (I forget the model nos but it definetely has viera link capability). I took the player over to have a look at some HD footage. My son has a Panasonic BD player (a new one) I will try sometime to see if the Sony recognises it as a cec device.

It might need turning ON in the TV setup menu?, there's various different settings in the HDMI setup menus.
