Just a speculation thread, as i remember in the last DWM that Moff metioned he was a big fan of the Doctor having more than one companion, it would make things more exciting etc etc...possibly hinting that was his plan.

We know River Song is along for some of the ride (excuse the pun) this series, assuming RS and D11 have a relationship, marry, yadda yadda it would make sense for her to be in a substantial amount of episodes?

Amy POND & RIVER Song together huh....

The second companion is Rory, Amy's fiance.

From set reports where his character appears in multiple episodes, including ones set in other times.

We know from set photos that he's in multiple episodes, but how did we find out their relationship?

One extra has talked about shooting a scene at Rory's Bachelor Party.

Not sure if Amy's boyfriend confirmed as being in any more than River Song at this moment.

At a guess we have

Doctor + Amy + Rory for 4 episodes
Doctor + Amy + River for 4 episodes
Doctor + Amy for 3 episodes
The Doctor (Amylite) for 1 episode
Amy (Doctorlite) for 1 episode.

Plus it's possible River and/or Rory turn up in the Lite Episodes.

Series one didn't have any "lite" episodes and only series 4 had both a Doctor-lite and a Companion-lite.

I'm thinking that as this is the first series with 11 and Amy, they may want to have them both front and centre in every episode and not do any "lites."

Could be wrong, of course!

They are doing 'lite' episodes for both of them, 7 is Amy lite, 11 is Doctor lite.

Pretty sure it's been mentioned that there will be.

I've certainly read it somewhere on the net, can't recall where the original info came from though.

There's another person who could technically be called a companion
Spoiler
as Van Gogh gets to travel in the TARDIS.

I've never thought that was a good working definition of a companion. Some are companions, others are passengers and others are thieves or stowaways, like the Master in Utopia.

If I had to make a definition, I'd probably go with "Someone who the Doctor invited to travel with him indefinitely and did end up travelling with him."
Spoiler
I'm pretty sure that won't apply to Van Gogh, who is too important for the Doctor to intend to pluck out of his time period permanently.

There is a story in today’s Daily Star that says that not only does The Doctor go and get Amy’s fiancé to travel with them but that he picks up another companion later in the series.

So it looks like there are going to be three companions by the end of the new series.

So, that would exclude original companions Ian and Barbara (who he kidnapped), Steven, Dodo, Ben, Polly, Sarah Jane, Leela, Adric and Tegan (all of whom either wandered aboard by accident, forced their way in or stowed away), Romana (who was forced on him by the White Guardian) and Liz Shaw (who never went inside the TARDIS). Most of the classic series companions, in fact...

Do you have a source? sounds interesting if true as the episodes are seperated by a few other episodes instead of what they did in series 4 with the Donna lite ep first then the next ep the Doctor lite.

I guess as the other "companions"...Rory and River, seem to be not be with the Doctor right through from start to finish like Amy, isn't much different to what RTD had done. In series 1, we had Jack and Adam along with Rose, series 2 was Mickey, series 3 Jack was back, and series 4 Martha, and then arguably on your viewpoint, Rose, Jack and the rest.

I am more interested in seeing which of the companions go through to series 6....hopefully fingers crossed it will be Amy!

The source is the voices in my head. Heh heh ha. No I think it's just been assumed by people. Could be wrong I suppose but the spoiler thread on gally base seems to think it's that way, and it's actually been pretty accurate of late.

Rule of Thumb: Anything printed by The Daily Star is complete bollocks...

Really sounds like it's just a reference to River Scum:

In a way I wish there was just focus on Amy and the Doctor but the episodes with Rory, her fiance, are obviously going to work for building her character. I really hope Amy stays for 3 years, though maybe something horrible will have to happen to Rory at the end of series 5/31 to give her a reason to stay with the Doctor.

Rumour, and it's untrue, unless she can find a way of filming DW in Wales and doing Legally Blonde in the west end at the same time.
