Remember how good they were? I was on my itunes library and I discovered I had the Demon Days album on there, and I've just ended up listening to the whole album. It's bloody good. I'm glad they're coming back.

O Green World
Last Living Souls
All Alone

One thing I am confused about: Did Damon Albarn ever supply vocals for the band? Or am I getting all confused because they are all cartoon characters?

Their new song is the best of 2010 so far and yes Damon provided vocals.

Its hard to find a band with such an eclectic sound.

I do like the Gorillaz, but if that advert of Spotify comes on one more time, I may shoot myself.

EDIT: Yay, 1,000th post.

If you like Demon Days then I recommend you get their Live At The Manchester Opera House DVD.

This is 'Demon Days' from that DVD - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iVi2coduQo
I love it when the gospel choir get going. The sound quality on YouTube doesn't really do it justice.

I'm also looking forward to the new album. Damon Albarn is one of the most imaginative and creative musicians around.

Personally I'm not finding the same instant appeal as i did for the first 2... I have faith though and am hoping it's a grower.

Other than how friggin' awesome Stylo is, the only other track I liked immediately was Glitter Freeze.

The video for Stylo is ammaazzinggg!!!

I'm looking forward to getting Plastic Beach. I haven't heard anything other than Stylo, but I have faith in Gorillaz to bring out something awesome, even if it is a grower, or I don't initially like, I will force myself to like it

Ooh, thanks. DS probably won't review it until it's five months too late. They are so behind on album reviews. I'm still waiting for the Owl City and Marina & The Diamonds reviews, just to see if they agreed with me

Absolute computer produced unmelodic garbage and confirms why musical standards are at an all time low eg Lily Allen;Lady Sh*te.Just listen to the crappy drum sound the so called producer couldn't be arsed to find a decent authentic sound.Keep real music live otherwise miming on stage or even this computerised infantile cartoon crap will become the norm

Why be such a purist snob? If all music was made by live instruments then it would be very boring and the possibilities would be limited. To suggest that electronic music is bad just because it wasn't made by a live instrument is narrow-minded.

Whilst I agree with you on the whole about keeping vocals and instruments organic so they can be reproduced/bettered live - I have to make an exception for The Gorillaz. I love their old stuff.

At the risk of being too negative, you're talking complete and utter elitist, nose in the clouds rubbish.

Jean Michelle Jarre - massively creative. thats all with synthesisers, computer produced.
Kraftwerk - pioneers in the arena of synthesised music

Whilst I'll agree that Lily Allen and GaGa are pretty dire.

Damon Albarn is about as far removed from the Lily Allen/Lady gaga types as possible. Like him or not, to deny that he's incredibly creative and a talented writer/performer shows that you've got your head in the sand (or up somewhere).

Its not the medium of the music that matters, or that the public image of a band is a bunch of cartoons. Gorillaz pull their musical sources from a huge range, its just bizarre the things they try to pull together.

I agree, he does seem to be very narrow minded.

I have nothing against electronic music, in fact I am a big fan, but Gorillaz use all sorts of intruments. Just watch their Demon Days live DVD and you'll see.

The cartoon characters are a bit silly to me, but I just ignore that and listed to the music.

Albarn is a very typical art-student type, and that shows. The visuals of Gorillaz came from the creator of the Tank Girl comics, and adds another dimension or story to the whole experience.

It's a shame you're not smart enough to look beyond the cartoon imagery, it's an outstanding album and one that probably won't be bettered this year (unless maybe the Deftones get their act together).
Then again, maybe it's not that much of a shame after all...

Love Gorillaz, thought Gorillaz & Demon Days were great albums, but I just cant seem to like Plastic Beach. I really want to, but it just falls flat for me. I think one of the main problems with it is there is no "big" tunes on it, Gorillaz had Clint Eastwood, 19-2000 & Demon Days had Feel Good Inc., Dare, Dirty Harry, El Manana. I suppose Stylo maybe? I can understand they wanted a new sound though...
