My guess would be this fundamental to the hardware.
When you put the HDR in standby, I imagine it sets the equivalent of a BIOS timer wakeup. Removing the power probably loses this information (and as a consumer product, this might be considered desirable from the point-of-view of performing a simple reset).
When the power is restored, the HDR doesn't boot up automatically - it goes straight to standby.
To fix this problem, I think the hardware behaviour would need to be changed so that restoring power caused the machine to boot up. Perhaps this is possible by modifying the bootloader, or maybe it's hard and that's why Humax haven't done so ?
