Interesting why would a fully powered box be OK with a power cut and the box effectively fully on without the audio/video enabled not be ? In this mode you get an instant boot. Can't try it at the moment but will set up a test later.

I got over the problem with a programeable remote with a 8 event timer that turns the hdr on for 5 mins up to 4 times a day.

One obvious change, when pressing Red on BBC you see a conspicuous 'Connecting' message before the red button service comes up, and then a direct link to BBC iPlayer Beta at the bottom of the list!

This is a change in how the BBC are offering MHEG rather than how the box is receiving it.

Also the same thing on BBCHD that didn't happen last week after i had the update? must be new

GC is right. Set a recording 14:55-16:00 and another 15:05-16:00, with the hdr in pre-recording sby, turned off power at 14:44 and back on at 14:46. Box responded to power on with a boot message on display and on TV. A bit later it shut down to full sby with the red light on. Pressed the remote boot button at 1455 hdr booted up and 30 sec later the 14:55 programme started to record (It was about 30 sec late).

So the box has to be physically on and delivering video and audio for it to recover from a power cut. Very strange I wonder what's different about being fully on

Agreed, but it didn't work prior to the update so perhaps the MHEG improvements that are cited enabled this to function? Could be proven with someone on a box thathadn't updated but in the end, what difference does it make, it's all gravy

Just tried to update the Bootloader from v7.51 to v7.53 (cause I was bored) and not having much success. I copy it to the USB stick, rename it, put the HDR in standby, plug the USB stick in the fron socket and power it up holding standby down. It detects the stick and there is a quick flash as the download screen appears (a split second literally) and then the HDR powers down with "E-ID" displayed on the front.

Tried re-downloading the file (just to make sure I hadn't accidentally downloaded the HD file and/or the download had been corrupted), tried 3 USB sticks 128Mb, 2Gb and 16Gb and even an SD card in a card reader but it just gives me the same "E-ID" error.

Any ideas? Not desperate to do the update but I still live in hope that the boot loader will be fixed at some point to cure the power cut bug (so it would be nice to know I can flash the boot loader if required).

Its been a long time since i did mine but did it need unzipping before renaming, it was fussy about sticks i remember that

I know its fussy about sticks but the weird thing is that all 3 sticks will quite happily transfer files between the HDR and a PC using the HDR file manager.

I know when I upgraded my HDR I had trouble with the boot loader renaming.

Can’t remember exactly how I done it in the end but I think you have to edited the file name by deleting the _U7_53 bit leaving the file name as,


FOXSAT-HDR_upgrade.hdf

I use underscores in passwords which can cause problems sometimes getting the - mixed up with the _ .

I have used several makes of USB sticks with the HDR and never had any problems with any of them.

Which standby button are you using? You need to use the standby button on the box, not the remote control.

Thats how I renamed it so thats not the issue.

As I say the download screen does appear for a split second which leads me to believe it is detecting the USB stick and the file on the stick.

A google of the message "E-ID" seems to indicate that it measns "Invalid System ID" and means I am attempting to download firmware which is not for the HDR which it obviously is

Check that you don't have file extension display turned off. It's very easy to call the file FOXSAT-HDR_upgrade.hdf.hdf because you can't see the existing .hdf
