iPod Syncing Problems...
most_haunted
04-02-2010
My iPod's doing dodgy things currently... it keeps coming up with that 'scan and repair' thing when I plug it in, so I try and do it and it says it can't while the disk is in use or something and has to do it when I restart my computer, which doesn't appear to make any difference. Anyway the only real problem I'm having is with updating album artwork, and I'm a bit of a perfectionist like that and although it has the album artwork when I view the songs on my computer, they don't show on my iPod.

Anyone got any ideas?

Updating the firmware of your iPod and iTunes would be a start. Both were released this week.

Thanks guys, will try that. Although...at the risk of sounding incredibly stupid, what exactly is the firmware? Lol.

I've been getting the same message as soon as I plug in my iPod for the past few weeks - it asks me to put in the disk, but I didn't have one with my iPod, so don't know how to fix it, and it's bothering me that it could lead to more problems with it when it's new and I've only been using it since the middle of Nov, therefore am going to back up my music and various media tomorrow just in case. A message popped up the other day telling me I need to update iTunes, so did that as I keep up with all updates seeing as our laptop is new, but this scan and repair thing is still appearing.

Sounds like a Windows problem as opposed to something wrong with the iPod.

I've been using my iPod since Nov and this scan and repair box has only bene popping up for the past few weeks. I've ran scans and health checks on my Windows Vista Home Premium over the past few days and everything is fine, so I really dont know what the problem is if it is a Windows problem, or if it's even a problem with my iPod as I keep that updated as and when required.

Am a bit paranoid that something will happen and that I will lose all my music and tv shows, so what's the best way of backing up the stuff on my iPod Classic? I've bought some disks, but wondering if there's a better, more efficient, quicker and safer way of backing them up? Not bought any kit to back things up in the past and just saved them mainly in the computer and on CD's.

First off all, all your music should be on your PC and not just on your iPod. I am not sure of back-up programs for Windows as I use a Mac, but I am sure someone can advise you on a good back-up program. You can pick up an external hard disk pretty cheap these days. I use this one http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/pro..._seagate_500gb . Works a treat.

I currently just use the Seagate with Time Machine on the Mac which backs up my computer every hour. My really important documents are also synced and backed up to Dropbox (http://www.getdropbox.com) . 2GB of free online storage.
