Perhaps they just feel comfortable in them.
if you keep turning up in threads where everybody wants to display faux outrage, and then counter with reasonable and measured comments..................... you're going to be in trouble.

I think leggings look nice with long tops or dresses. They do not nice (on people, fat or otherwise) with a short top, in place of a pair of trousers.

Of course they do. Women's clothing in high street retailers goes up to very generous sizes.
As has been pointed out, it's about wearing what looks appropriate on a particular body shape and size. Even skinny girls can't wear anything they like because some things just won't look right on them. Sadly a lot of women and girls can't seem to accept that not everyone can wear whatever they like and get away with it not looking as if they've dressed in the dark at a church jumble sale.

As a fatty, I agree. I saw these, specifically made for larger sizes and wondered why anyone of a size 16-32 would want to force themselves into such a hideous garment. (The model used isn't even fat and looks ridiculous).
![]() That's Littlewoods for you! Unfortunately, if manufacturers make clothes in a particular size, people will wear them, whether it suits them or not. I don't think larger people look good in leggings, but I guess if they're prepared to wear them and look like Will Farrell in Elf in the process, it's not really my business! |

is the 'gh' in by mistake.
![]() If the leggings are worn as tights, under a skirt/long top they can be much more flattering that a tracksuit or even a tailored suit imo. |

Well I think fat women look better in leggings and a smart, long, loose fitting top than they do in tailored trousers and skirts (yuk). If I was a fattie I would be rocking the leggings look!
![]() I scarcely think a job interview or a funeral would be the right time to wear leggings but the trousers or skirt might well be more appropriate. |

I think the occasion comes into it as well though, don't you?

We have 2 New Looks, Evans, Ann Harvey, Yours, BHS and Debenhams do plus size ranges and Matalan sell Rogers and Rogers. My wardrobe does not consist of the same thing, I have lots of different clothes, all of which flatter my figure. We have plenty of choice |

No fewer overweight men seem to wear overly tight and short tee shirts. Equally frightful but their choice.

Can I just say this applies to skinny people as well. I am a size 8 and I would never wear leggings - they make my legs look like two twigglets.

Also, I would think other things come into it as well as dress size. Some styles of jeans can look very unflattering on very short people, for example. And even very thin people can have disproportionately wide calves or ankles, which don't really suit leggings or tights. I think if I was a few sizes larger I'd still wear leggings underneath things. After all, putting loose denim or cotton over your legs isn't going to make them look any slimmer, is it? I'd probably just wear longer dresses/tops over them

Give them a break! It's not like they have alot of options.
I think leggings with a nice long, loose fitted top can look quite smart on a larger lady. |

I think leggings on the larger lady can be very flattering if worn with a longish top or dress and a nice pair of boots. I don't think anyone should wear leggings with a short top or one that doesn't cover the bottom. That would just look disgusting. I can't say I've seen anyone leggings with anything but a long top.
