You know Dan,

you're going to be in trouble.

They're just like thick tights.

I think leggings look nice with long tops or dresses. They do not nice (on people, fat or otherwise) with a short top, in place of a pair of trousers.

As has been pointed out, it's about wearing what looks appropriate on a particular body shape and size. Even skinny girls can't wear anything they like because some things just won't look right on them.

Sadly a lot of women and girls can't seem to accept that not everyone can wear whatever they like and get away with it not looking as if they've dressed in the dark at a church jumble sale.”

Well I think fat women look better in leggings and a smart, long, loose fitting top than they do in tailored trousers and skirts (yuk). If I was a fattie I would be rocking the leggings look!

That's Littlewoods for you!

Unfortunately, if manufacturers make clothes in a particular size, people will wear them, whether it suits them or not. I don't think larger people look good in leggings, but I guess if they're prepared to wear them and look like Will Farrell in Elf in the process, it's not really my business!

Har-de-har.

If the leggings are worn as tights, under a skirt/long top they can be much more flattering that a tracksuit or even a tailored suit imo.

I think the occasion comes into it as well though, don't you?

I scarcely think a job interview or a funeral would be the right time to wear leggings but the trousers or skirt might well be more appropriate.

true.
More appropriate but unflattering. Being fat and female must suck.

Tight leggings on anyone over size 12 look horrible.

I agree, I live in Nottingham and although I can't shop in places like river island and top shop. We have plenty of larger ranges.

We have 2 New Looks, Evans, Ann Harvey, Yours, BHS and Debenhams do plus size ranges and Matalan sell Rogers and Rogers.

My wardrobe does not consist of the same thing, I have lots of different clothes, all of which flatter my figure. We have plenty of choice

YES! Every Summer, there they are! As a fatty myself, I wouldnt dream of wearing such things.......they are usually accompianed by tight shorts or track bottoms ( pulled up under their armpits) showing their b******s !

Can I just say this applies to skinny people as well. I am a size 8 and I would never wear leggings - they make my legs look like two twigglets.

I agree, I am size 10-12 and very tall and wear some form of leggings almost every day. Always under a dress or a long top though, I don't think many women want their bum and crotch visibly and tightly outlined, whatever their size!

Also, I would think other things come into it as well as dress size. Some styles of jeans can look very unflattering on very short people, for example. And even very thin people can have disproportionately wide calves or ankles, which don't really suit leggings or tights.

I think if I was a few sizes larger I'd still wear leggings underneath things. After all, putting loose denim or cotton over your legs isn't going to make them look any slimmer, is it? I'd probably just wear longer dresses/tops over them

I wear tights all the time but wouldnt dream of wearing leggings! I hate when you see people wearing leggings (or even worse jeggings) as trousers with tops that dont cover their arses.

I think leggings on the larger lady can be very flattering if worn with a longish top or dress and a nice pair of boots. I don't think anyone should wear leggings with a short top or one that doesn't cover the bottom. That would just look disgusting. I can't say I've seen anyone leggings with anything but a long top.
