Glad to hear you're having him done ~ it's the best option for both you & your cat. He'll make a much nicer pet & you'll be taking away the frustration of being unable to fulfil very strong hormonal urges.

It may take a while for the castration to take effect ~ probably best to ask your vet about this but it can take several weeks or months before the decreased testosterone levels begin to affect his behaviour. So if you can keep him indoors for a while, it would be better for all concerned.

Good luck for Wednesday ~ hope it all goes well.

Good luck OP!

My 13 month old lab is being speyed today.
Dropped her off at 8am this morning, picking her up at 5pm, poor pooch. She lost 6KG and actually looks like a labrador now. I've heard they can pack on weight after being speyed, hope that doesn't happen

Good luck to you both. You may find he doesn`t want to go out. I have two Sphynx cats, who I couldn`t let out if I wanted to as they would freeze. They don`t even try to escape now (they are just over one year old) maybe they will in the summer.

Good luck TL ~ hope it goes well with your dog.

Yes they can gain weight after neutering. This was when Barney first started to gain weight so you'll have to watch your lab doesn't start "spreading out"! But as you've been so good getting the weight off her so far, I'm sure you'll be ok. Regular weigh-ins at the vets should help you to keep an eye on things.

Thanks wilhemina

She lost 6KG in total, she's now a healthy 30KG and I must say she looks great! Picking her up at 4pm. No exercise for 48 hrs and then its only on the lead and gentle exercise.

That will be challenging given the energy she normally has

I would imagine that for the first 24 hours she won't feel like doing much & will probably want to sleep a lot, but the anaesthetic affects dogs differently so she could be raring to go the next day or feel a bit sore & sorry for herself. Plenty of TLC should sort it though.

Well he's home and fit as a fiddle. You wouldn't even know he was anaesthetised earlier!. The nurses didn't want him to leave, they said he woke up and wanted to play immediately. He's got a little bald patch on his front leg and one on the 'you know whats' But he's just fine.

Thank you wilhemina on the advice regarding his hormones and how long it would take for them to calm down. Its heart wrenching to watch him mew loudly and walk in circles by the front door, I know he can smell the pretty lady cats (I live in cat city btw!)
So I'm hoping that he will calm down in time as its not fair on him, poor little mite, doesn't know if he's coming or going.

I'm glad now, I've made the right decision as he is a beautiful pet, and all I want is for him to be comfortable and have a happy peaceful life.

Here he is (sorry to show off but I'm a proud cat mum )
