Botox & Dermal Fillers
OK, so I'm 40 and have become aware over the past few years of a few lines and creases in my face which I'd like sorted out.
Nothing major but I've got a crinkle in my chin that I think looks horrible and my nose to mouth lines are getting more visable and I'm thinking about either Botox or Dermal Fillers. Anyone out there had it done ? I'm a bit concerned about the side effects, I don't want my face to swell up and also I'm not looking for the frozen face effect, just want some lines smoothed out. Any advice, comments etc ? |

I don't know much about it, but I've heard from many different sources that you should be prepared to spend as much as you can possibly afford.
Funnily enough, OP, I think it would be much like getting a hair cut, which I was posting about earlier - if I were you I'd apply the same principle to this. Do A LOT of research. If you know anyone who has had this kind of procedure (only if you love their results, mind), ask them where they had it done, and who did it etc. I'd also consider asking to see examples of surgeons' work. I'm pretty sure most places do free consultations - maybe go to a few places before you decide anything. I have to say (sorry - I'm sure you've given it a good deal of thought) - do you really need botox? If you're having it in order to look younger, that rarely happens - many people who have had botox look good for their age, but rarely younger. Also, because the botox 'look' is becoming more ubiquitous, I think it's quite easy to tell when people have had something done, even if you can't quite place your finger on what it is exactly. It's rare to see women (if you are a woman, op?) in the public eye who have had nothing done, but one example is the actress, Edie Falco, who I think looks fabulous, and totally natural - most importantly, she looks great for her age. I actually think think she looks younger for having not had botox. Edie Falo Let us know how you get on anyway, op. Hope whatever you decide goes well. |

I had Botox done for about 4 years until 2008 when I got pregnant, and now I can't afford it ! I was 35 when I started havig it. I loved it, as when you get someone who is good at it it just makes you look more awake. The frozen look is not a good one though.
1 in 200 can go wrong, and you can't predict when this will happen which may lead to something like a droopy lid which can last for up to 6 weeks. Only side effect I have had is a bit of a black eye, where one of my blood vessels leaked from the needle going in. Not for the squeamish though, forehead and eyes takes about 12 needles, and one of those is right on the inner corner of the eye. It does hurt a bit but doesn't take long ( about 5 mins). Expect to pay from £250 upwards and you have to have it done about every 4 months. PM me if you want to know any more. |

I'm 40 and I had dermal fillers last May on the lines from nose to mouth. It cost 340.00 euros (expensive where I live) but well worth it. The surgeon told me it would last 6-8 months and so far still going strong. It hurt a little but was bearable.
I am saving up to have the expression line between my eyebrows done next. |
