I see this happen so much.
I always thought the people who don't bother to clean up after thier dog's are horrible.
That was until i starting noticing poo that the owners had obviously gone to the trouble of bagging up, but then leave it bagged up on the ground or hanging from a tree.
Why do they do this?
Surely it would be better to not bag it up at all, as bagging it up makes sure that it will not break down for year.
Any thoughts on this?

I think they do that so that don't have to carry the bag around with them on a walk, and intend to collect the bag on the way back. If that's not true and they leave the bag hanging in the tree then they are scum.

I've heard this before, but personally have never seen it happen anywhere. I suspect it's just another "brand 'em all the same and bash 'em all" type urban myth about dog owners that survives through being repetition.

To give benefit of the doubt, maybe it has happened somewhere, but again, it's not something we all do, which is why the title of threads like this would come across better as "why do some people..." etc.

For the record, I just use an old carrier bag to put the smaller doggy bags in until I find a bin. It's not difficult.

I've only ever done this once. I was taking my dog across a road bridge to some open countryside to walk him, and he went just as we had crossed the bridge.

The last bin was a good ten minutes walk back, and there aren't any bins in the Fields and footpaths, so I always wait for him to go, before we cross the bridge, but this particular day he went twice, so I bagged it up, put it well out of anybodies way, (against the fence and away from the path) and then collected it again an hour later on my way back

The reason I didn't take it with me, is because I am not too steady on my feet and there are lots of styles and slippy paths on our walk so I need both hands to hold on to fences and trees, to steady myself. if it hadn't been so icy and slippy I would have taken it with me or gone back and binned it

I do see people leave it hanging on trees a lot though..I assume they are going to collect it on the way back, but often they don't..I suspect some get annoyed at the lack of bins, and do it as a protest...I know in one local popular dog walking area near here, the council came and inexplicably removed all the bins.....it became completely ruined with bags of poo hanging on the trees, and eventually they put them back again...although personally I just put it in the car and binned it when I got home...I couldn't leave it hanging on a tree..yuk!

That's exactly what happpened where I used to live.

There was a press release from the local council about a "crack down" on dog owners and how they were stepping up the fines given out to those who didn't clean up after their hounds.

However, at the same time, some idiot in the very same council then decided to have all the bins removed from a popular dog exercising area on, yes, you guessed it, health and safety grounds!

It made no logical sense, but then I coudln't help wonder if the bins had been deliberately removed to make it difficult for dog owners to do right thing and thus allow more revenue raising fines to be issued?

Us dog owners are quite rightly expected to bag and bin, but there need to be more bins in certain areas.

Near my Mums house there seems to be a very popular bush where people bag it up and shove it into the bush. There is loads of it. Disgusting really, I don't see why people do that, although I guess it's better than leaving it on the floor.

There's absolutely no point in bagging it up if you aren't going to dispose of it properly. Dog poo is actually an organic substance which will decompose eventually, but not if it's in a plastic bag! The numpties are better off just leaving it where it is or kicking it under a hedge or into a ditch.

The field near my house, where i walk my dog has 3 poo bins around it's edge. It also has 3 regular rubbish bins.
So many times in my walk i find myself avoiding brightly coloured bags of dog poo, either left on the ground or stranger still are the one who leave the bags right next to the poo bin, rather than in it!
I always clean up after my dog, even if there isn't a poo bin for miles. If i don't see a poo bin, i take it home and put in my bin.
Please for the love of god, if you're too lazy to clean up after your dog, just leave the poo of the ground, rather than making sure that that organic matter from your dog's backside doesn't rot down for years!

I can say this now as the person is no longer alive but I have noticed this person who would carry a small shovel when walking the dog only to scoop up the mess and leave it in the garden borders of the folk in the area. I can only think the dog owner would expect the householder to blame it on stray dogs as the mess was thrown well under the plants. I am a postal worker and pass the same houses every day, but the person was a well respected soul who would never be suspected.

I agree, I live in the New Forest so its not so important to pick up the poo as it does get washed away but now I am noticing that peeps are putting it in bags and throwing it into bushes and overgrown areas, truely what is there IQ - to do that just dosent make sense, the bags remain and it ruins the countryside.

TAKE IT HOME OR PLACE IT IN A BIN

I agree that bagging it up only to chuck the bag into or under a tree is very irresponsible as it can't rot down but you can now get biodegradable poo bags ~ although I still don't see why dog owners don't put poo bags in poo bins!!
