The Audio Plays again!!
Jakes_stuff
04-02-2010
I'm really sorry for keep cluttering up this forum with threads about the audio plays, but this is the last time (I think) Promise! (Sort of...)

As someone who has only recently started listening to the plays (and is enjoying them more than he thought!), I'm having problems trying to work out what order I should be buying them in!!

I originally got 'The Gathering' as i'm a bit of a Tegan fan, so then felt the need to get 'The Reaping'

Then, intrigued that apparently Adric came back in 'The boy that time forgot', and realising it was in the middle of a trilogy thought I'd better get 'The Haunting of Thomas Brewster' before listening to 'the boy...' - having listened to them both and enjoying them, am now awaiting 'Time Reef' arriving

Also, I got 'Cuddlesome' free with DWM quite some time back and got round to listening to it which had a lengthy section from 'The Mutant Phase', and again was intrigued so am also awaiting this arriving!

I also am half way through the eighth doctor collection that has the first 4 eight doctor stories (ommiting 'Minuet in hell' I believe?)

Anyway, to the point of what I'm asking!! Having browsed round the 'Big finish' finding it increasingly confusing, and also being a bit of a bugger for watching/listening/reading things in order - is there anywhere where I can see a list in order of

The fifth doctor audio stories
the sixth doctor audio stories
The seventh doctor audio stories
and the eighth doctor audio stories????

I'm sorry if I seem incredibly anal about this, but I know that pretty much all of the doctors (especially the eighth!!) get 'none tv' companions, and I'd hate to buy them randomly and be thinking 'so when did he/she come into it?' and that sort of thing - I get the impression that especially the Eighth doctor stories have some continuing story?

And one other thing... this may be a bit controversial, but I find the big finish prices a bit steep, and have got most of my cds so far from play.com where most of them are considerably cheaper..... does anyone know any other sites that sell them cheaper than Big Finish, as play doesn't seem to have them all?'

Thanks for your time guys - BTW, I'm not expecting someone to type me up four big lists, but if anyone has a link of anywhere on the web they could be - as i'm assuming they're somewhere out there??

List of Doctor Who audio plays by Big Finish Click on Series Sorted to get a list in order.

Amazon sell 'em cheaper as well.

Most of the stories actually stand on their own, you might be better getting ones you like the sound of rather than do 'em in order, however here's the release order: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._by_Big_Finish

NB: Get The Kingmaker.

I just started listening to the audios a few months ago and have been listening in order from the beginning because my brain can't abide doing things out of order!

Thank you for another thread about the excellent audio plays - its nice to have the chance to talk about them!

Can I recommend the current 6th Doctor/Peri series "The Lost Stories".

Somehow, Big Finish have pulled together all the scripts that had been prepared (to various degrees) for Colin Baker's second series as the Doctor, before evil Michael Grade pulled the plug and put the show on an 18 month hiatus.

When the show returned in 1986, all these scripts were binned and instead we were given Trial of a Timelord.

So far, I've listened to The Nightmare Fair, Mission to Magnus and I'm halfway through Leviathon. Colin and Nicola Bryant are great, and it was particularly fun to hear Nabil Shaban perfectly recreate the revolting Sil for audio.

I'd be interested to hear other people's views!

I think I plan to listen to alternate, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Doctor stories - but in order!

Or maybe even a woman!

For the most part, Five, Six and Seven do alternate, then you get a block of Eight all together, which I think works quite well as Eight's stories are a little more continuity based.

The one thing I would say is against listening in order is there is a huge big build up to Zagreus, which was the official 40th anniversary story, and is rubbish, not to put to fine a point on it; maybe best avoided. You'd likely find it a huge disappointment if you listen in order, given the build up.

Aw, I rather enjoyed it... Perhaps rather self-indulgent, but I couldn't wait to work through it all.

Well the first 80 minutes or so weren't bad, but by the time it started gibbering on about Schrödinger's cat and all the Alice in Wonderland nonsense the plot had well and truely been lost. Making it 4 hours long was a bad mistake. In fact I do have to wonder what happened when they were discussing it. Here is the cast of Zagreus:

Paul McGann (Zagreus), India Fisher (Charley), Anneke Wills (Lady Louisa Pollard), Stephen Perring (Receptionist), Nicholas Courtney (The TARDIS), Jon Pertwee (Voice of the Third Doctor), Elisabeth Sladen (Miss Lime), Mark Strickson (Captain MacDonnell), Sarah Sutton (Miss Foster), Nicola Bryant (Dr. Stone), Peter Davison (Reverend Matthew Townsend), Conrad Westmaas (The Cat), Caroline Morris (Mary Elson), Maggie Stables (The Great Mother), Bonnie Langford (Cassandra), Colin Baker (Provost Tepesh), Nicola Bryant (Lady Ouida), Robert Jezek (The Recorder), Stephen Fewell (Corporal Heron), Sophie Aldred (Captain Duck), Lisa Bowerman (Sergeant Gazelle), Bonnie Langford (Goldilocks), Sylvester McCoy (Walton Winkle), Don Warrington (Rassilon), Lalla Ward (Romana), John Leeson (K9), Miles Richardson (Cardinal Braxiatel), Louise Jameson (Leela).

So presumably what they thought they needed for the 40th anniversary was no one playing the doctor and Bonnie Langford playing Goldilocks. More drugs nurse!

That is just most bizarre, one of the funniest things I've ever read. But strangely it just makes me want to listen to it now.

You know, the cast list may have been partly why I enjoyed it so much - I'm a sucker for a cameo!

You'd need to listen to Neverland (and probably Storm Warning too) first for it to make any sense at all. And don't, seriously, it's 4 hours long and completely impenetrable.
