Thanks

You may know this already but ITV need to be transmitting the programme in HD in the first place, some programmes are simulcast in SD and HD. There is no separate ITV HD channel..

That said, you need to locate the programme you wish to record on the epg and then press the 'ok' button, not the 'record' button. The box will then prompt you to whether you wish to record the HD or SD version.

And whilst I'm at it pressing the 'ok' button also gives the option to record series linked programmes when available, again this option isnt available by pressing the record button

many thanks, much appreciated. I knew there wasnt a separate ITV HD channel so I wondered how to get it to record in HD on ITV.
Thanks again

Just one thing...

ITV HD does not always seem to record reliably.

We recorded Wild At Heart last night on ITV HD and it ended 5 minutes before the end - very annoying.

This happened, despite me having set the option to add 5 minutes to the end of recordings. I reckon ITV incorrectly sent an "End of programme" marker at 50 minutes, so the box carried on for the additional 5 minutes, then stopped.

No problems recording BBC HD (channel 108).

Is anyone else seeing problems with ITV HD - there seems to be some talk of problems, on some old posts.

Padding screws up ITV HD recordings. After experimenting I always use auto and last nights Wild At Heart recorded fine using auto.

Cheers for the tip - I'll try it again, without padding.

The reason I added the padding in the first place was because I think it screwed up Wild At Heart once before, with everything set to auto. But that was in the early days of HDR ownership, so may have been finger trouble on my behalf.

It's encouraging that yours was OK, it's just that these examples of the HDR misbehaving don't always help me justify to Mrs C the move away from (simpler but more costly) Sky+ !

I suspect the problem with padding and ITV HD is related to the red button access. The hdr can't access ITV 1 HD until the broadcaster enables red button mheg access so an early start can't access the HD data stream

OK, makes sense.

Explains why the first few minutes of the recording are normally the splash screen with the big ITV HD logo (which you can forward-fast through up until the start of the actual programme).

I think last night Wild at Heart was running 10 minutes late due to a extra programme being inserted.

I think it was a video of the Haiti disaster appeal song, Everybody Hurts.

Ah, that makes even more sense - thanks.
