STV Clockwise movie aspect ratio!

I tuned in to STV earlier today to watch the movie Clockwise only to discover that this movie was originally was pan scanned for 4:3 aspect ratio but I noticed it was further cropped to fit widescreen broadcast. Viewing it was a nightmare as it seemed to be so zoomed in to fit the 16:9 broadcast. Why do they do this! I turned over to watch Evan Almighty instead on ITV Border which was in its true aspect ratio!

    It's because British telly channels are so obsessed with widescreen.

    I watched part of the Clockwise film this afternoon before I turned it over to watch just for laughs on fiver at 5.10pm. I never really noticed the pan scanned for 4:3 aspect ratio on the Panisonic lcd 32inch in the living room while watching part of the film. Its a good film I have seen it a few times.
