It's been on the news today that cat owners have been found to be more intelligent than dog owners!

Apparently Bristol University have found that, amongst other things, cat owners are more likely to have a degree.

As a cat owner I have long since suspected this

What do others think?

Personally I would take this research with a pinch of salt, ANYONE who cares for animals is intelligent in my eyes.

As cat "owners" we get up when they tell us to, we get walked on, slept on and shouted at. We come when summoned, pick them up on demand and generally wait hand and foot on them. Not sure if that makes us intelligent or barking mad.

As lay person who owns neither, I'm inclined to say that dog owners are the more intelligent.

It is commonly said that cats have no loyalty to people, just places & sometimes have more than one 'owner'.

Dogs are much more loyal to their owners, therefore, the wiser person would choose the animal that is more loyal to them.

Goodness knows whether there is any merit in my theory, but I had fun dreaming it up.

well dog owners don't have time to study, dogs demand constant attention, walks etc where as cats just need fed, watered and wormed

There is a certain "class" of people who owns dogs in order to intimidate people and they bring down the ratings of dog owners... you need not be afeared of cats unless your penchant is to pluck their belly hair with your teeth.

Or it could be...that they've done a count of all the dogs and cats that get dumped after Christmas or no. of call-outs for cruelty/mistreatment and its probably more dogs than cats and so have arrived at the conclusion that these people must be less intelligent as they clearly cannot look after their dog...or have bought one for Christmas in the first instance!

The daft thing is that the thrust of this research was that people in demanding jobs, who work long hours, probably earn more money & had to have qualifications to get the job in the first place, are the people that have cats because they don't have time for a dog ~ which has been curiously correlated to the fact that cat owners are more intelligent.
