BBC iPlayer appears to have packed up on my W7 Desktop and I have no idea why. It has previously worked fine but all that happens now when I select a programme to stream is this - I click play I can see a picture of the programme but the programme never starts, I just get the swirling circle (like the one you get when it buffers). It doesn't matter how long I leave it the programme won't play, whichever programme I select.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the utility twice and rebooted - to no effect. I can play the programmes on my Laptop so it's definitely a PC issue. I have checked security settings and Java is installed and up to date, I have also emptied the temporary file folder. Anyone have any ideas?

Not that it's any comfort, but it looks as though you're not alone (unless you're "emily"!)

You might want to keep an eye on the messageboard for a solution.

Have you checked to see if you download speed has dropped? When this happens to me my desktop PC experiences the same problem with iPlayer yet the laptops in the household still work ok.

Another thing you can do is try adjusting your Hardware Acceleration setting down a notch at a time in the Display Settings, Advanced, Troubleshooting option.

Same problem here also.

I have uninstalled & reinstalled iplayer so many times, but with no success.

BBC, appear to be not interested!!

Might it have something to do with your version of Flash? Perhaps try updating it.

It's a service for UK licence fee payers only, so is limited to UK-hosted IP addresses. There are, apparently, solutions available where you pay a monthly charge to get a "UK" IP address, but they are no more legal than torrents.
