I dont think it should be included. It is not dancing, it is dangerous and banned from Olympic competitions anyway; in fact skaters lose marks if they do it. The show is called Dancing On Ice, not Daring On Ice.

I find it

a) difficult to watch

and

b) it just doesn't flow in the routines - the couple have to practically stop the whole routine and then go into the headbanger and it just jars everytime

I don't like it either. One day it will go wrong and someone will get seriously hurt. I can't watch it or enjoy seeing it in a routine, like yohinnchild said - it disrupts the whole thing, never mind being bloody stupidly daring. Watching someone's head inches from being splattered on rock hard ice isn't my idea of entertainment.

you're right there, it is just put in for the sake of it, not part of a routine and in there just so they can say they've done it and show off.

It just adds to build up "the will it go right or will it go wrong", the tension is supposed to have us on the edge of our seats....don't really get it myself, but Fred and Mel always look fantastic when they do it!

Lets hope Matt gets the right leg if him and Heather atempt it

It's included to wow the audience but I think it requires the celebrity to demonstrate more courage than any real skill.

I do think too much is made of it year after year. The whole of tonight's show seemed to be geared towards Hayley's headbanger.

Enough already.

I'd rather see celebrities attempt more complex footwork even if it is more subtle to the eye than a death defying move.

I don't know why that headbanger is included because it's supposed to be "dancing on ice" not being flung around by your feet!!!!

If Torvill & Dean think it's okay to include it in the show, who are we to argue?

Is it bad that I only find it entertaining when someone hits the ice ??

Must say I felt sorry for Hayley when Chris said "You'll be the first girl to do it properly on here in a few weeks' time" (or something like that) when the poor girl was still recovering from tonight's rollercoaster of a performance!

but he meant that she would be doing the full headbanger that the pros do.

Robin meant by getting in and out of it whilst skating rather than lying down... rather than saying she didn't do it properly!!

I just meant, she probably doesn't even want to think about doing it again just yet!

I don't see the point of it either. It's just a showcase of the male pro skater's strength and skill.

That's the problem I have with it. The woman doesn't really have much to do, other than not run away screaming!

I don't see the point of it - its just so graceless and only there for the shock value.

Was amazed that Jayne Torvill - had never done the headbanger until this week. Yet Hayley is doing it after just a few weeks on the ice. Says it all really - its not ice dancing at all!

Given the hype about Hayley's skating skills I'm surprised they elected to do it lying down, though maybe it's just too early for her to try it standing up. Come to think of it though, has any competitor other than Suzanne done a standing up headbanger (finished off lying down of course)? I can't think of anyone.

Headbanger = a week of VT saying 'oohhh Im scared' then nailing it to applause on the night

pity she messed up earlier, whats the use of the headbanger when you mess up the rest

So was I, thought I'd misheard! That alone makes me think they shouldn't include it, it just isn't ice dancing.

Naughty slappers, you know full well she didn't 'mess up the rest'. She was, in fact, brilliant.

mAYBE ONE OF THESE DAYS SOMEONE WILL GET BADLY INJURED WITH IT AND THEY'LL STOP IT! Oops, didn't mean to do caps!

I can never remember seeing Jane and Chris do it in their many years of skating so why are these non-skaters risking hurting themselves? It doesn't even look very good... where did it originate?

Who are they to say a move illegal in Olympic-eligible skating is ok?

Wait 'till someone is seriously hurt doing it (or learning it) and see how ok it looks then. If the injury is bad enough, that's the end of DOI.
