Is there an easy, and free, way of getting my own DVDs onto my iPod touch. I've tried a downloaded DVD ripper but it says it can't do it as the DVD is encrypted.

Is there a foolproof program I could use?
Cheers

I don't know about fee, but if you want to pay DVDFab is great.

There used to be a free program called DVD shrink, which could rip the DVD. However, I believe the support for that has stopped and now it will not rip all DVDs (particularly new releases). Anyway, once ripped the file will have to be converted to mp4 format to play on your iPod.

DVDFab (there are others) will do it in one operation, making it much easier.

Do you want it free or easy

If you use a Mac then DVD2Pod to pod is a free and very easy to use application.

I've not got a mac, its a pc, running vista. I downloaded dvdfab which worked brilliantly, pretty easy to use, and burned and converted the dvds without difficulty, though it wasn't quick.

I did notice that a couple of files, maybe 2 out of 7, had subtitles, which was a bit odd

With DVDFab you can select to have th e subtitles on or off. However, if there is only one set of subtitles then it will burn then as default (I think) so you have to select not to in the options, or something like that.

I think you can use DVD decoder to rip the DVDs and the videora to convert to MP4 format. Both are free. I've never used DVD decoder but videora works fine. Although yu have to pay for it, I'd highly recommend Magic DVD ripper, it rips and converts your DVD to ipod format in one process is very and is very quick and straight fowrard. That's what I use.

The iPod Touch in my experience only accepts the h.264 MP4 files. I had to reconvert all my mp4 movies and tv shows that worked on my iPod Classic to get themn to be accepted. Funny thing is they all work on itunes but you won't be able to syncronise them unless they in the h.264 format
