I’m looking for some advice regarding dying my own hair, I have light brown hair with blonde highlights (two shades of blonde one darker one lighter) I really need my roots doing but as I am getting married at the end of the year I just can’t afford the £100 to get it done right now.

I want to go blonde all over, a darkish blonde-nothing brassy but I’m worried that it will come out patchy what with my roots and highlights been different colours, is there anything I can do to prevent this or can anyone recommend a colour or brand of dye that would be good to use?

Personally I would never recommend going blonde with a home kit especially with highlights as they will need a different length of time than the rest of your hair.
I have bleached blonde hair but let it slip and it went mousey so I tried to colour it myself. It is very difficult to go lighter as you need bleach so I bought a really strong blonde bleach kit - what a disaster!!!
It cost me a load more money to sort it out than it would have done in the long run.
Perhaps get in touch with a local collage to see if they have a student training programme and they will do it at a discount.

If your hair already has bleached highlights etc, the chances are that the bleached streaks will come up lighter than the rest of your hair, also if you have streaks which have been dyed a darker shade may take the colour differently, and if they have a reddish tone, or a cooler brownish tone, they may go orange or greenish if you try to strip the existing dye with bleach.

Perhaps look for a more affordable hairdresser. Some mobile hairdressers who will come to your house to do your hair are a lot cheaper than salons as they do not have the overheads of running a salon.
