Why are the ratings so low?

I'm sure previous series have usually been around the 9/10m mark for most shows, but this year it seems to be more like 7/8m, even dipping to just over 6m a few weeks ago!

Any reason? I think the line up is really strong and I'm loving this series much more than last year's.

I used to be a fan of the show and even applied and got tickets to see the show but this year I watched the first show and then gave the second show a try but I find it so over the top. All the shouting from the audience and the shouting from Holly and Phil just has put me off. It seems really bad this series

Also the music is so repetative and also showing all the clips of training. It just goes on for far to long.

Have not watched since and will not again even for the final!

I find the audience behaviour appalling, I don't want to listen to screaming and booing non-stop. I think the choreography, particularly last week is uninspired and the music choices not great! admittedly last year they had more scope with a wider range of skating ability. And whether you like the guy as a person or not, there can surely be no denying that Ray Quinn was great to watch. I don't see anyone with the wow factor this year, and I personally find the lineup quite uninteresting too, although that of course is personal taste, but I find I am not supporting or looking forward to anyone in particular this year. All of this seems to combine to making the show run of the mill rather than really exciting. I shall persevere in watching although I do Sky+ so I can fastforward through the interminable adverts!! I know this sounds really negative, but I do hope the show picks up for me, and the thread made me analyse why I am not enoying the show as much this year.

Ratings aren't 'so low'.

The equivalent episode last year got 9m (34%) for the main show , and 7.4m (28%) for the results show. This year they got 8.28m (31.4%) for the main show, and 7.52m (28.9%) for the results show.

So slightly lower figures for the main show, and slightly higher for the results show. Not a lot of difference overall. 7 or 8 million+ is not even remotely low ratings.

It clashes with "24" on Sky, although Sky repeat 24 on a Monday.

They surely are low in contrast to the first three series though? I don't know the figures but I'm sure they were usually topping 9m/10m??

By its 5th series, X Factor had it's highest ever ratings and then topped that again with the 6th series. Maybe DOI needs format tweaks to keep it fresh?

The adverts are awful, I'm sure ITV are sneaking a lot more in over the last few months on their longer shows.

I like the line-up and am especially rooting for Hayley, Danniella, Mikey and Kieron.

I'm surprised how many advert breaks there are this year - are there usually so many? I don't notice it half as much during bigger shows like X Factor but it seems like they have an ad break, one dance, then another ad break.

The problem I have is a) it's far, far too long... they drag everything out to an insufferable length yet still only manage to squeeze in two or three comments from the judges at a time and b) the production is a bit lousy this year... I think the show needs a total overhaul as it's very stale atm.

And I've grown irritated by Phil. His shouting is awful.

It does drag on for too long, maybe people's attention isn't being kept for the full 2+ hours?

They should cut the training VTs right down to about 1 minute - it's the same in SCD, their training VTs are far far too long.

Keep the waffle to a minimum, I'd even say stop asking Jayne & Chris for their opinions rink-side and just go straight to the judges.

The constant adverts are incredibly annoying, even more so by the fact that its the awful McLeans ones this year.

I'm still enjoying the series though.

Ditto, it's not a patch on Strictly for entertinment or GTD on Sky, which right now I'm loving.

I'm keeping up by reading JfW's "Musings On A Sunday Evening". I also refuse to watch 3 people, whatever they're on- Russell Brand, Jordan and Heather Mills. So that rules out DOI this year.

I was going to edit my last post, but it's not showing up

I see Heather went last night, so theoretically I could watch now. But I cant drum up much excitement.

Maybe it's because there is nobody who is outstandingly good this year?

I really doubt that a programme on Sky is denting its ratings at all.

I may be the only one then, and perhaps my tastes are quite unusually diverse, but if I were unable to watch one and either record or watch a repeat of the other, I'd be in a dilemma!

I posted at the time sunday didnt do it for me at all...IMO was the worse episode in DOI ever.

it seemed really flat Jason was in a right mood that was clear.

I think they also messed up with so many adverts..its great for making a cup or tea or having a pee..but just as you settle in another advert.

Same here - makes the show much better. I'm sure we're not the only ones.

Pardon my ignorance, but do those of us who Sky Plus the programme not count in the ratings?

I would have thought that would work in its favour. Knowing that Ray was going to win it all the way through put me right off last year. It's better when it's closer and more of a competition.

For some reason this year just doesn't hold it's usual appeal -maybe I'm getting old but I find myself thinking oh DOI has started and doing nothing about watching it. I'm not missing it either

I think the UK audience is all 'danced out'!

How many dancing programmes can the British viewers tolerate?

One network stumbles upon a winning formula, then all the other channels then bombard us with subtle variations of dance programmes.

That's what I think - none of them are a patch on Ray, Chris Fountain or Susanne Shaw who were all brilliant. This year it's very dull.

I actually agree with whoever said it was too long with too many adverts. The other week I PVR'd it and managed to watch the whole show in 45 mins when it was live it was 2 hrs 20 mins.

I loved last year and even though we all knew Ray was most likely to win there were a few other people that were worth watching.

This year is a lot closer - you have 4 guys and 2 girls who have a chance of winning.

Its the judges that annoy me most this year - they are so erratic with their scoring and this weekend was a complete farce.

I don't agree - I watch it to see people excel themselves. In some ways I think it's a shame Heather Mills went out, because it was interesting to see how she coped with the challenge.

I understand your point of view and I know there are people who share it, but I think there are a lot of other people who watch DOI because they are looking forward to seeing what kind of dazzling routine someone like Chris Fountain or Ray Quinn is going to produce each week. Although there are a few this year who are quite good, there is nobody who is that good that I eagerly anticipate their routine every week.
