The Saturdays 'rule out 2010 tour'
The Saturdays have reportedly ruled out going on a UK tour this year.
The girlband, who released second album Wordshaker in October, claimed that they are too busy doing promotion overseas. "We badly want to do a tour, but we've got a lot of things to do, so it's about fitting it in with Asia and Europe," Rochelle Wiseman told the Daily Star. "We wanted an arena tour last year but you have to come up in stages. Last year's small theatre tour was much more personal. We had been supporting other people, so it was refreshing. "As much as we love supporting we always worry whether the crowd will like us because they've come to see the other person." The group admitted that they are eager to perform at more festivals, despite having initial fears about how well they would be received. "We will be doing all the festivals. The first ones were terrifying. Because we're pop we thought we'd get booed," Wiseman added. "We went from being frightened to getting the best reaction." The Saturdays were recently confirmed to perform at Thetford Forest, Suffolk as part of the Forestry Commission Live on July 9. |

Interesting news. Am a bit disappointed though as I was looking forward to seeing them on tour again this year (last year's was really good) but they're doing well planning to promote in Asia and Europe.

I think its to do with the fact they haven't sold enough to tour with the new album rather than time constraints. I enjoyed the Work tour so a bit disappointed that they are not doing a tour this time around.

Probably due to lack of album sales. Shame because it's a good album.

The problem was the lead single. Although FIO isn't awful, its not lead single worthy. If they released Ego first and then another single and then the album perhaps sales would of been different.
interestingly the brits have passed the sats by, with other new superior girly pop acts getting the nominations the sats by now should be getting. |

I think it was the lowest selling#2 of the year though. Only 38k of sales I believe, a month later that would've placed them outside the top 10 on some weeks.

It sold 38,846 in its first week
For comparison, Suagbabes sold 41,683 for #8 for AAG, Rihanna sold 41,306 of RR for #8, Cheryl sold 43,011 for #5 for 3 words. Then it slid down the charts, only lasting 6 weeks in the Top 40. The problem I think was releasing the album when they did - they didn't stand a chance. They're not as big as Girls Aloud but their record company treated them like they were, they put them up against "the big boys" when they weren't ready to compete. The weeks after their release saw HUGE releases: Alexandra, Cheryl Cole, JLS, Leona, GaGa, Rihanna, Sugababes, Black Eyed Peas, Robbie Willams, etc. The press, TV shows, etc. were all interested in them - not The Sats Their release and new album was completely over shadowed by these artists. They should've released a single in October time, another in January and THEN released the album, when its much quieter. Ego is doing a lot better and is having a longer chart run because of the quieter period in the charts now. Girls Aloud are big enough to compete in the tough pre-Christmas period and are big enough to release an album off the back of one single - but it took them years (and a member on the most watched TV show in the country) to get there. Whoever thought The Sats were at that point after 18 months was a complete idiot. |

Maybe their label thought it would work because they toured with GA and they did the Comic Relief single. |

When Girls Aloud first started off they used to release two or three songs before releasing the album then maybe release another 1 or two songs after. One of the main problems i think The Saturdays have is not enough promotion with the top shows.

This is so unfair for The Sats. For a manufactured pop group they're pretty good. Their live performances are always consistant (whenever they get a chance to sing live
The management are ruining them. For a start, let's take it back to their debut. On their debut album they had cracking songs like Up, Work, Set Me Off, Chasing Lights, Why Me Why Now, Issues etc yet somehow If This Is Love was chosen as the lead single? If another song was chosen (Up or Work) it could have been a debut top three hit, imo. Still, a #8 debut single wasn't bad. Then 'Up' came along and lasted about 20 weeks in the top 40 after initially peaking at #5 and eventually sold over 300K copies. 'Issues' peaked at #4 and again, soon became certified Silver. Everything was going well. Then it went downhill. Instead of releasing 'Work' as the fourth and final single around February/March, the girls got rushed into a Comic Relief cover and became the first group in years to miss the #1 spot. After that, the promo for 'Work' was botched and along with the passing of Michael Jackson and the fact that it was the 5th single from an album, it ended their top ten run and stalled at #22 in the charts. 'Work' (the last single from album #1) left the charts in July, and then the lead single from the 2nd album entered the charts in October. Absolutely no break at all for the girls. I bet 90% of the public were unaware they even had a new album out. According to the DS midweeks it was set for a top five placing in the charts, yet it only got to #9 in the charts before falling to #40 and then #53, 74 and #98 in the charts before finally leaving the top 100 after five short weeks. The lead single was again an awful choice. Forever Is Over became the least selling #2 single of the year and plummeted out of the charts after 10 weeks in the top 100. Thankfully, things seem to be picking up a BIT now. 'Ego' is well on it's way to 200K already and it's still in the top 20 in the charts. After 10 weeks of it being in the top 100, it is higher than any of their previous singles. Eventually the album re-entered the top 40 at #34 a few weeks ago and it's still hanging on inside the top 100 but it looks set to leave soon. The awful choices of lead singles, little break between albums and botched promotion have contributed to this. Now the girls have to miss out on a tour because of their management. |

Tbh they have had good promo for 'Ego', and the benefits for the album, werent exactly high! 10.8 million viewers translated to less than 7,000 sales = crap! |
