Hi all,

I know that the best Hard drive to increase the space capacity of your Humax Foxsat PVR is a Western Digital AV-GP : Model: WD10EVDS

The problem that I'm having is finding that actual model in stock anywhere - I'll like to get it delievered and setup before the Winter Olympics start..

Anyone know where I can shop to make this possible ?

Or if anyone knows of an alternative HDD ... which is built for PVR not just a random PC based one, which over time will cause read errors.

Many thanks.

I forgot to mention that for a crazy price everything is always available

£90 is a bit much it should only cost £70ish - which includes the P&P

I can do you £77 incl vat and shipping but that's just for the 8MB Cache. Whereas the one from amazon was the 32MB Cache.

Perhaps that too was the smaller CACHE DRIVE?

I am also looking for a suitable 1Tb drive to upgrade my Humax Freesat HDR.
The WD drive seems to be awaiting stock in many places.
Been looking at this model Samsung EcoGreen F2 1TB Hard Drive SATAII 32MB Cache. ebuyer have this at £57.99 and seems to get favourable reports?

It was £71.00 in total including delivery, also remember VAT has increased.

Found this one not sure if it will be OK but is AV specced

Samsungs website is now showing a new EcoGreen 1TB 32Mb Cache model HS105SI. From what I can see the the data transfer rate has increased from 166Mb sec to 250Mb sec, but the HD103SI model is still a good spec and price.
This AVForums thread about upgrading is a good read and using Samsung drives from last year, so older hdd models.

Oooh, thanks, I've just pre-order mine - hope they let me check what HDD is in it, as I dont want it if its a Seagate one..(reviews on above page say that some are Samsung others are Seagate)

With code '10HD' I got 10% off the price, bringing it to £58.49

Just hoping Comet let me plug it up to my laptop to see what drive is in there.... Whats the chances of that ?

When did you get them, I've opted to get mine from a pokey store which should still have the first batch in, which I'm hoping is the Sammy's

How would the Seagate fair in the Humax ?

Cheers,..

So all I need to know is are the Seagates any good as PVR drives : these IOMEGA externals seem to have either

ST31000528AS
or
ST31000520AS

in them, if not a Samsung F2

If your Seagate code is correct ST31000520AS then this looks like a really good spec Super Low Power 1Tb Barracuda 5900 (better than the standard low powered 5400) spin drive, here
Seagate are a renowned worldwide drive manufacturer, they even took over Maxtor, so although this drive does not stated as true AV suitable for PVRs I would think it is very close to it.
I may try one of these from Comet and see what it is like.

Just ordered online and collected the Iomega Select 1TB external hard drive from my local Comet for £58.49 (less the 10% hd10 code).
Presently looking at how to open the caddy without damaging.
There is 1 screw beneath the front rubber bung and the 4 screws for the hard drive, 2 are again under 2 glued rubber feet. But seperating the unit is as yet not easy as I do not wish to damage it. Will persevere.

It has 2 internal retaining push clips near the centre. You press the centre points in whilst lifting up and the top cover removes.

The unit has the Samsung HD103SI model.

Just picked up my HDD from Comet - they wouldnt let me connect it up prior to purchasing it (No surprise there)

My Iomega is a Seagate ST31000520AS Barracuda LP running at 26C (according to HD Tune)

Hoping this will work okay in my Foxsat, without error correction messing things up.

All upgraded and working.
1Tb Samsung formatted to maximum with reduced minimum 1Gb photo \ music partition.
320Gb Seagate put into the Iomega external caddy and copying HD files to the 1Tb ok.
Just have to add all of my schedules now.

g'day,

My WD EVDS 1tb arrived today from amazon.de - 72 euros, ordered 6/1/10, now installed etc, what's the scoop re an external caddy to copy stuff (Gladstonbury etc) from the original disk?

sorry if I have broken our forum decorum.

Mine worked a treat as well, thanks for all the advice...

I've now got loads of space to record the Winter Olympics in HD

One thing that is an issue is copying the stuff back from the original HDD that is now in the Iomega caddy to the drive which is in the PVR, is the USB on the front running at USB1 speeds! ?

Flipin heck, its painful...

It CANNOT be any worse than the USB on the BT HH2 which i assume is running USB2..
but then the USB system does have other housework to do when in the PC environment..
A puzzle indeed..
I see on the general forums that many are bemoaning the fact that they picked up a virus on DS yesterday..
someone mentioned Win7 even??
and a range of AV progs..
I would hope that mention would appear here too
if it were so prevalent
as i seldom look at the other chit chats..
